amitraj-ankush-choudhary-guru-movie-sanjay-jadhav

After the success of ‘Dagadi Chawl‘, Ankush Choudhary has become the new style icon of Marathi film industry. Now, he looks more confident of shouldering the responsibility of a film, as a solo hero. And, to begin the new year, he has a suitable role to play in his forthcoming Marathi film ‘Guru’, directed by Sanjay Jadhav and produced by Eros International, Dreaming Twenty Four Seven and Bagpiper Soda.

No wonder, we have seen the commercial ads of Bagpiper Soda, presenting Ankush Choudhary along with his leading lady Urmila Kanitkar Kothare and actor Sayaji Shinde. The makers of this film, unveiled the special poster designed by Publicity designer Sachin Gurav and also the first look of ‘Guru’ presenting a song picturised on Ankush, displaying different styles of sunglasses, while singing, dancing and fighting, on the music of Amitraj. Singer Adarsh Shinde has rendered the voice for him, with lyrics by Sachin Pathak.

Director Sanjay Jadhav was the happiest man today, to notice a good attendance of media persons, for this event. This also gives him an indication of Ankush Choudhary’s popularity. The film is all set to release on 22nd January 2016.

Teaser Look of Marathi film ‘Guru’

Past happenings of Marathi films released during past  5 to 6 years, show that films released during the first month of the new year, have always been hits. Best examples are films like Zenda, Natarang, Shala, Balak Palak’, ‘Time Pass’ &Classmates.  Now, director Sanjay Jadhav is also getting ready to release his film Guru, which is presented by Eros International , during January 2016. So, after Diwali Dhamaka, we hope to see  new year bash too, with Guru declaring  its release during January 2016.

For the year 2015 , Sanjay Jadhav didn’t have a good time, as both his films Pyaarwali Love Story’ and ‘Tu Hi Re’ not achieving expected success. So, for Sanjay, it is very necessary to begin the new year with a bang, as he has two more big projects, to handle during 2016. Luckily, for ‘Guru’ he has his Duniyadari lucky star Ankush Choudhary, who is presently in great form, with two successive hits, in the form of ‘Double Seat’ and ‘Dagadi Chawl’. Ankush too wants to make it a hat trick with this film, as a successful solo hero. By the way, ‘Guru’ stars Ankush along with Urmila Kanetkar.

Ankush Chaudhari to endorse popular ‘Soda’ brand through film ‘Guru’

Guru, Movie, Ankush ChaudhariWe have often seen top actors from Bollywood endorsing popular brands, including the famous ‘Soda’ brand through advertisements of the products. Now, we are watching Ankush Chaudhari endorsing this famous ‘Soda’ brand in advertisements hammered on television.

Now, we have come to know that Eros International Media Limited (Eros International), a leading global company in the Indian film entertainment have  announced its one of a kind content partnership with  the makers of this ‘Soda’ brand,  for their  upcoming Marathi film ‘Guru’.

The film stars Ankush Chaudhary in the lead role. So, don’t be surprised to see him endorse this ‘Soda’ brand in the film too.  Popular Marathi TV and film actress Urmila Kanetkar plays the female lead opposite him. But, we don’t know, whether she too will be  endorsing any consumer product in  the film.  ‘Guru’ will be directed by Sanjay Jadhav, based on a script by Ashish Parte. The film  is expected to go on floors by November 2015.

Movie Review by: Ulhas Shirke

Few years ago we saw a Hindi movie ‘1942 A Love Story’, wherein we witnessed an impressive musical love story, taking place in the midst of India’s fight for independence. Similarly, in the latest released new Marathi film ‘Pyar Vali Love Story’ , produced by Inder Raj Kapoor, Rekha Jayant Joshi, Deepak Pandurang Rane, we find a musical love story, which is set on the backdrop of 1992 communal riots in Mumbai.

The film takes you on the sets of two ‘chawls’ supposed to be located somewhere in Mumbai. Both these chawls are shown adjacent to each other, one having Hindu and the other having Muslim inhabitants. Aalia (Sai Tamhankar), stays with her parents (Ila Bhate, Nagesh Bhosale) and her brother Kaderbhai (Upendra Limaye), who indulges in street fights at a slightest provocation. But, he always has the strong support of his die hard Hindu friend ‘Pashya’ (Sameer Dharmadhikari). Then there’s a foul mouthed, but still lovable, Nandini (Urmila Kanetkar-Kothare), who is in love with Pashyabhai , and wants to marry him. Kaderbhai, who treats her as his sister, supports her. And soon we see the marriage of Pashyabhai and Nandini taking place.

Amar, (Swapnil Joshi), Pashya’s younger brother, who comes down to Mumbai for the wedding , coincidentally meets his love interest, Aalia, and it is love at first sight for him. Just when romance is budding between them, we notice a twist. Aalia’s father (a police constable) fixes her ‘Nikaah’ with his boss, police inspector, Alam, (Chinmay Mandlekar), who accidentally gets killed on the ‘Nikaah’ day. Kaderbhai suspects, it as a deliberate act by Amar, as he is aware of Amar’s affair with his sister.
Sai tamhankar
Kaderbhai vows to take revenge, which necessitates enmity with his best friend Pashya. In the meantime, Amar and Aliya run away from this riot affected place and take shelter elsewhere. And that widens the enmity between kaderbhai and Pashyabhai. Finally, all of them assemble at one place for the concluding dramatic scene of the film.

The story by Sanjay Jadhav is simple, with a clear intention of presenting intense love story. The Screenplay of the film sometimes gets wobbly, but dialogues are noticeably brilliant at some points. Most of the dialogues are in Hindi, without hampering the process of story telling. Violin pieces used in the background music try to generate romantic atmosphere. The music director trio AmitRaj, Pankaj Padgham, Samir Saptiskar, have tried to make this film more musical; but, only one song ‘Jara jara..’ is impressive. Cinematographer Prasad Bhende has cleverly captured the essence of the 90s. Art direction of Manohar Jadhav is not so impressive, as the sets of the film look average and artificial.

Director Sanjay Jadhav has given a treatment to this film, like any other Hindi commercial movie ,by packing romance, drama, emotions, comedy, fights, song and dance routines, all together. Ila Bhate, Nagesh Bhosale, Chinmay Mandlekar, Sameer Dharmadhikari, have done their jobs effectively. Upendra Limaye should have toned down his facial tissue movements. Urmila Kanetkar-Kothare has turned a scene stealer in the first half. Sai Tamhankar has an exhilarating screen presence and with each film she is turning out to be a still better performer. Swapnil Joshi can easily be called Shahrukh Khan of Marathi films, given the number of romantic films he is featuring in. He has done a swell job using the right amount of emotions.

Their destiny made them directors

Sanjay Jadhav

After the release of hit film ‘Duniyadari’ Sanjay Jadhav came into reckoning as a successful director. But, he began his career in Marathi film industry as a cinematographer. And, as a cinematographer, he had made his presence felt through award winning and popular films like ‘Jogwa’, ‘Dombivali Fast’, ‘Saade Made teen’, ‘Saatchya Aat Gharat’ in Marathi and ‘Mumbai Meri Jaan’ in Hindi.  Sanjay had actually debuted in direction with ‘Checkmate’ followed by films like ‘Ringa Ringa’, ‘Fakt Ladh Mhana’, where he tried to offer something different, through the screenplay. Now, he seems to be concentrating more on direction and therefore, we saw him handing over the responsibility of photography to others in ‘Duniyadari’. That does not mean, he has stopped cinematography. But, for the time being, he is busy with his next home production.

Rahul JadhavAnother successful cinematographer, who has turned to direction is Rahul Jadhav. He made his debut as a director through the film ‘Vijay Aso’; but, as a cinematographer, he had earned a name with notable films like ‘Golmal’, ‘Zenda’, ‘Superstar’, ‘Janma’ & ‘Narbachi Wadi’ to his credit. Now, his next film as a director ‘Hello Nandan’ starring Aditya Kothare is due for release.

Mahesh Limaye, Cinematographer

Well known cinematographer of Bollywood and Marathi films, Mahesh Limaye, is also ready with his debut as a director with the film ‘Yellow’ and is being produced by Ritesh Deshmukh. As a cinematographer Mahesh has shown his wonderful work of cinematography through films like ‘Natarang’, ‘Uttarayan’ & ‘Balak Palak’ in Marathi and in Hindi for Dharma Production’s film ‘Gori Tere Pyaar Main’ and Salman khan’s production ‘Dabang’.

Avadhoot Gupte

Besides these cinematographers, there is also well known singer and music director from Marathi film industry – Avadhoot Gupte, who took up direction, offering films like ‘Zenda’, ‘Morya’ and ‘Jai Maharashtra Dhabha Batindha’. With every film, he has offered something new and has shown improvisation in his direction.

Ajay Naik, PictureOne more music director, who has turned to direction is Ajay Naik. After composing music albums and offering music for Marathi films, Ajay first tried his hands at story writing with ‘Satarangee Re’ besides offering music of that film. And recently, he made his successful debut as a director, through a sensible film ‘Lagna Pahave Karun’ starring Mukta Barve and Umesh Kamat. Currently he is busy with his second directorial venture ‘Baavare Prem He’ starring Urmila Kothare and Siddharth Chandekar. Along with writing the story, Ajay is also composing music for this film.

Sarvesh ParabAnd, how can we forget Sarvesh Parab? This well known editing master of Marathi and Hindi films made his debut in direction through 2012 film ‘Satya Satyavan aani Savitri’. And, he did succeed in presenting a captivating murder mystery, though the film could not do well in theatres. Some of his Marathi films, he has done fine editing are : ‘Mee Shivajiraje Bhosale Boltoy’, ‘Shikshanachya Aaicha Gho’, ‘Lalbaug Parel’, ‘Ticha Baap Tyacha Baap’ , ‘Jetaa’, ‘Premcha Zol Zhal’ and ‘Target’.  Sarvesh is busy with his next directorial film ‘Saabale’

Movie Review by: Ulhas Shirke

The most valuable gift you can possess is a honest friend. Many a times, some people come into our lives and quickly go; but, some stay for a while and leave footprints on our hearts. Ace Cinematographer turned director Sanjay Jadhav’s latest film ‘Duniyadari’ presents a plot based on such theme, which is inspired from best seller ‘Duniyadari’ by eminent writer Late Shri Suhas Shirwalkar Though primarily set on the backdrop of 1970’s, the happenings in this romantic emotion filled love story, still relates to the youth of today, as screenplay writer Chinmay Mandlekar has made few changes to suit the cinematic form.

So, we find Shreyas Talwalkar (Swapnil Joshi) a young boy in his 20s from Mumbai, caught up in a bad father and mother (Uday Tikekar- Varsha Usgaonkar) relationship. After scoring poor passing marks in graduation, he is sent by his mother to Pune’s S. P. College for his post graduation. He finds his accommodation in college hostel and encounters notorious Digya alias DSP (Ankush Choudhary) and his Katta Gang comprising of Ashkya, Nitys, Sorry, Sunil and Umya, a bunch of hooligans. Digya is in relationship with his long time neighbourhood friend Surekha (Richa Pariyali), who is also part of the gang.

The katta gang members add vibrant colours to the otherwise disturbed life of Shreyas ,who is from a rich family , but deprived of love and friendship. The gang come across a brother and sister duo of Pritam and Shirin (Sushant Shelar and Sai Tamhankar), who are children of a renowned MLA. Pritam who is also student of Post graduate studies, becomes friendly with Shreyas and his other friends, while Shirin who is a medical student, is a frequent visitor to their college. It is actually love at first sight for Shireen, when she first meets Shreyas. The friendship grows. But, in between Digya and his friends suggest Shreyas to become friendly with Police Inspector’s daughter Meenakshi alias Meenu ( Urmila kanitkar Kothare) taking it as a challenge to teach a lesson to her adamant father.

Duniyadari Review

The assembly of these characters is enough for the film to progress with its screenplay with sequence of scenes between Meenu and Shreyas, Shireen and Shreyas, Digya and Sainath alias Sai( Jitendra Joshi) – from a rival gang and local politician’s son. Jealous about the growing friendship between Digya and Shreyas, Akshya breaks away from the group and joins Sai’s group. We also find Sai playing his clever game, proposing Shirin through his political connections. Watching Shreyas coming closer to Meenu, Shirin accepts Sai’s proposal. But, she still tries to be a good friend of Shreyas. Also, with the help of her brother, she brings Meenu closer to Shreyas. Now, in a dilemma, Shreyas declares his love for Meenu , in presence of Shireen; but is not happy. Even Digya finds his beloved getting married to a stranger, at the behest of her parents, who don’t approve Digya.

Many events unfold thereafter, through frequent flashbacks; as the entire story is shown in a series of flashbacks, which is a new style adopted by the director. You also find its link to the story of Shreyas’ mother, who reveals the truth to Shreyas , after his father’s untimely death. It is after that you find a sudden change in attitude of Shreyas, who moves ahead with his changed plan, to take you through a filmy climax .

Director Sanjay Jadhav seems to have paid more attention on presentation of every character from his film, with lot of perfection on their costumes and styles suited to the period of 70s. Watch the bell bottoms of boys, long side locks of Ajinkya, long hair style of Jitendra and costumes of all characters. They are all perfectly styled. What looks unrealistic is the climax, which goes on the lines of Bollywood films of 70s and 80s. Smoking cigarettes by the characters including Shireen-a medical student, has been shown more than required. Her regular visits to S. P. College and that too once in their library looks unnatural. Not much attention has been paid on the make up of the artistes in the older look, except for their grey hair. Even the names of the katta members engraved on the katta, are noticed during the reunion after almost 40-50 years, which is something strange.

But, the fine performances by all the artistes in the film make you overlook these minor errors. ‘Duniyadari’ is a film that mainly revolves around two main characters, Shreyas and Shireen, which is in narrative form from Shireen’s point of view. In the character of Shireen, Sai Tamhankar has found an important role to display her real acting skills. Till now, she was being used more as a glamour girl. Swapnil, was expected to deliver his best and he has played his role with total commitment to his character. His total involvement in the character, can be clearly noticed in this film.

In the role of Digya, Ankush Chaudhary is a perfect choice. He impresses with his tall angry young man looks and actions. Jitendra Joshi presents a rowdy young villain in style, paying more attention on his attire and dialogue delivery. Though Urmila kanitkar kothare finds a limited role, she plays an important character in the film, displaying her emotions clearly. Even Richa Pariyali in her limited role, finds an opportunity in one particular scene, to display her emotions. Sushant Shelar’s Pritam is convincing and so is Ajainkya Joshi’s Ashkya.

In this film, Sandeep Kulkarni surprises with his special appearance. He hardly has 2- 3 scenes; but he creates an impact through them. In the supporting cast, Varsha Usgaonkar, Uday Tikekar and others offer good backing. Music by Sameer Satoskar, Pankaj and Amit Raj is good for a change. Director Sanjay Jadhav has paid complete attention on direction, as he has handed over the responsibility of cinematography to Prasad Bhende in this film, who has done a good job. No wonder, there is sincere effort put in by entire team in presenting this strong script backed film.

Movie Review by: Ulhas Shirke

If you are under the impression that Marathi films cannot do commercial business as Bollywood films do, then latest Marathi film ‘Fakta Ladh Mhana!’ would prove you wrong. This action packed thriller Produced by Mahesh Waman Manjrekar and directed by Sanjay Jadhav offers all that, a hit Bollywood film posesses. It contains all that masala or in other words the perfect formula to make a film hit. Only drawback is that it is full of violence going on the lines of a typical South film. But, then we should not forget that most of the hit Bollywood films are a remake of those hit Masala South films.

Don’t be surprised if Mahesh Manjrekar decides to do a remake of his own film with top Bollywood actors prepared to play the five man army. Yes, you may give this another name to ‘Fakta Ladh Mhana!’, so much is the impact created by these five finest actors comprising of Bharat Jadhav, Siddharth Jadhav, Aniket Vishwasrao, Santosh Juvekar and Sanjay Narvekar from the Marathi film industry. They combine well to form that team under the leadership of their Don- Babubhai played by none other than Mahesh Manjrekar

Sanjay Khapre Mahesh Majrekar

In today’s existing situation, our own politicians have turned villains of the common man. Therefore, the film needed a strong character to perfrom the role of a shrewd Minister and his cunning brother. And, there wouldn’t have been a better choice than going for talented Sachin Khedekar and Sanjay Khapre respectively. The film begins with the sad state of affairs in a village, where politicain turned Industries Minister Patil and his brother with the help of local politician Kulkarni ( Vaibhav Mangale) make the lives of poor farmers miserable forcing them to sale their lands after the SEZ comes into force.

The only opposition comes from an ex-seviceman (Satish Pulekar) who refuses to bow down. He is murdered by Kulkarni and his men but his mentally challenged nephew is the mute witness against Kulkarni. His helpless uncle after witnessing the thumb rule, rushes him to the city in search of an elder nephew( Bharat Jadhav) of the ex-seviceman. Thus begins the revenge. The five man Army comprising of those sharp shooters belonging to the gang of Babubhai then proceed to the village. Some of them carry funny names like West Indies, Kanfatya and Paani Kam ( the little boy who serves tea to the five man army).

Not realising the power of the Minister, the Five man army confront directly with Minister’s brother and Kulkarni, only to be trapped by the shrewd Minister. When they are about to leave the village, another tragedy occurs, when they all swear to finish off the trio comprising of the Minister, his brother and kulkarni one by one. How they plan it and execute it is all that we see in the second part of the film full of action and thrills. As someone has rightly said, “Kuch Paaneke Liye kuch khona bhi padata hai”; the five man Army put up a brave fight against the corrupt system of the Minister forcing him to resign. The film does not end there, as a thrilling climax awaits for a sweet revenge.

Cinematographer turned Director Sanjay Jadhav has cleverly combined this action film with few scenes of emotions besides ccreating that required humour through Sanjay Narvekar and Siddharth Jadhav. Both of them time well with their dilaogues, during tense situations. Bharat Jadhav has a serious type of role having lost his love to Minister’s brother. But, his arguments with Aniket Vishwasrao ( Alex) are well knitted into the screenplay. Aniket plays the character of Alex with full commitment. Above all, it is Santosh Juvekar who impresses in the character of Salim. In one particular scene he tries to explain the difference between a sharp shooter and a terrorist and captures the attention of all.

Kranti Redkar finds a totally different role in this film and she does her part well. Sachin Khedekar, Vaibhav Mangle and Sanjay Khapre play the negative characters with authority. Hemangi Kavi has little for her share, but she plays that small role with total dedication. Amruta Khanvilakr and Manasi Naik have been used to offer a Lavani and Mujra respectively to complete the formula.Vishakha Subhedar finds that small role of Munnibai during the Mujra. The newcomer young boy plays the mentally challenged character well. Dialogues are well written but at many places the Censors have blown their whistle. Mahesh Majrekar as portrayed a Don in his own style.

The film is fast paced, hence not giving much scope to the viewers to question as to how the five man Army manage to move from their hide out to the city and back during the heavy police vigil. But, surprisingly, film has clearly hinted a revolution in this country, if the politicians cross their limits. On the whole, ‘Fakta Ladh Mhana!’ is a complete package filled with that required masala to draw sizable crowds. But, those who deslike violence and bloodshed , should keep themselves away.
