It’s time for Girish Kulkarni to prove his ability as director
We have already seen what Girish Kulkarni can do, as an actor and writer in Marathi. With his friend Umesh Kulkarni, he has also produced memorable Marathi films. Now, Girish will be seen in a new role of director in forthcoming Marathi film ‘Jaundya na Balasaheb‘ ,shooting of which is complete and the film’s post production work began on the auspicious Sankranti day.
‘Jaundya na Balasaheb‘ is also debut film of Music director duo Ajay Atul, as producers. This being their own film, much is expected from the music of this film, which is a socio- political film. Moreover, other big names are also associated with this film, comprising of Poonam Shende, Umesh Kulkarni, Pashant Pethe , Anumati and Vijay Ganu.
Besides Girish Kulkarni, other lead artistes of the film are Mohan Joshi, Reema, Dilip Prabhavalkar , Sai Tamhankar and others. The film will be released soon.
Umesh Kulkarni continues with his good work of encouraging new short film makers
After the success of previous three editions of his ‘Shoot a short’ workshop on short film making, Umesh Kulkarni has announced the fourth edition of this workshop, which is to be held between10th December to 13th December 2015 at NFAI, Kothrud, Pune. The enthusiasm shown by the participants & continuous enquiries from the people, has encouraged Umesh to arrange the workshop for the fourth time.
Three time National Award recipient director Umesh Vinayak Kulkarni and film academician Samar Nakhate will be conducting this workshop. And, the workshop will primarily be held in Marathi Language. Therefore for Prospective Marathi film makers, this is a golden opportunity to learn something worthwhile, from these experts.
Passionate about short films, as an independent form of storytelling, Umesh Kulkarni says that despite the easy access to technology and resources available to upcoming filmmakers, there aren’t good content driven short films, being made in India. “By providing the right inputs through this workshop, I believe, enthusiast participants can develop a better perspective and understanding of the medium of short filmmaking. Short films and feature films are as different as short stories and novels, hence should not be compared on the same level”, he added.
At the workshop, aspects such as basic concepts of film making, fundamentals of Production of Short Film, Translating Idea into a Script, Pre-Production, Production and Post Production, working with Actors / Non Actors, Crew Management and Scope for Shorts at Short Film Festivals will be dealt with. After the workshop, participants will be asked to submit scripts of their short films out of which 4 will be selected and produced by Aroh Velankar’s “Rangartha Productions”. The workshop is open for people above 18 years of age.
It may be recalled that besides producing feature films like Valu, Vihir, Deool and Highway , Umesh has eight short films to his credit. More importantly, Umesh Kulkarni has also kept his passion for short films alive. And therefore, to keep the short films movement growing, he has also started a short film club in Pune. The workshop will be conducted in the National Film Archive of India, Kothrud on 10, 11, 12 & 13th of December 2015.

Four directors give clap for Film’s Muhurat
What may be called a big news in Marathi film industry, four reputed directors of Marathi films came together, to give clap for the muhurat of their friend’s film. It so happened that muhurat of Ajay-Atul and Girish Kulkarni ‘s film ‘Jaudya Na Balasaheb’ was to be held in Kenjal village near Wai. Among the special invitees, were the four directors, namely Umesh Kulkarni, Satish Manvar, Nikhil Mahajan & Gajendra Ahire. And, they played the chief guests to give the clap for the muhurat shot of the film.
Writer and actor Girish Kulkarni is making his debut as a director through this film and all these well wishers had travelled all the way to Wai, to wish him success. The film is produced by Ajay Atul, along with Girish Kulkarni and Poonam Shende, who are also sharing the burden of production. Needless to mention that the film has Ajay Atul’s music. Prominent artistes from Marathi film industry are part of the team. Present on the occasion were Mohan Joshi, Reema Lagoo, Sai Tamhankar, Poorva Pawar, Kishore Chougule, Shrikant Yadav,Prashant Pethe and others.
Umesh Kulkarni to conduct short film making workshop in Pune
Arbhaat Film will be conducting ‘Shoot a short’ a workshop on short film making, between 5th December to 8th December, 2013 at NFAI, Pune. This is the third edition of the workshop after its inception in the month of January. The second edition was conducted in Thane. Constant enquiries and the encouraging response to the first two editions have compelled them to announce the third edition in the same year.
Umesh Vinayak Kulkarni, a three time national award winning director and an acclaimed film maker will be conducting this workshop. The workshop will primarily aim at guiding film enthusiasts to make short films. The three stages of film making such as pre production, shooting and post production will be explained thoroughly. Translating an idea into a script and then to a screenplay, cast and crew management, dealing with actors are some of the core areas the workshop focuses upon. Every individual above 18 years is eligible for this workshop.
Umesh Kulkarni won his first national award for his diploma film titled ‘Girni’ (The Grinding Machine) that he made as a student of the film and television institute of India.Even after making three critically acclaimed and successful feature films like Valu (The Wild Bull), Vihir (The Well) and Deool (Temple), Umesh continues to make short films. He has directed more than ten short films till date. (Most of them have been produced by Film and Television institute of India.) ‘Three of Us’ One of Umesh’s shorts premiered at the veryprestigious Berlinale international film festival. This film also won Umesh another National award for best director. ‘Three of Us’ went on to be screened at more than 40 international film festivals. ‘Gaarud’ (The Spell) a short film he made in 2008 won the golden conch award at the Mumbai international film festival.
