‘Subhedar Guest House’ – A well presented suspense filled murder mystery

Latest released suspense filled Marathi drama ‘Subhedar Guest House’ (सुभेदार गेस्ट हाऊस) is set against the backdrop of a murder, which takes place in Kolhapur. And, we notice a group of strangers arriving in a guest house at Panhala (the same rainy evening); which is just 30 kms away from Kolhapur.
So, we find the guest house ownersVinay ( Saurabh Gokhale) and Chitra ( Mrunmayee Gondalekar) welcoming their guests, one by one comprising of five different characters played by Angad Mhaskar, Vinita Date, Sana Kulkarni, Rohit Deshmukh and Anand Patil. Thereafter, we see the arrival of a Police officer Bhosale, played by Shantanu Moghe, at this venue.

When the Police Officer starts his investigation, he clearly indicates that all seven characters present in the guest house ( including the owners) will be questioned and they will have to prove themselves not guilty. On the same night, another murder takes place in the guest house and director Vijay Kenkre, calls for interval.
In the post interval stage, the audience becomes curious to know, who is the culprit? And with few twists and turns, we find this play reaching at an interesting stage of climax; which suprises almost everyone.

The most interesting part of this play is its clever presentation, which is based on Agatha Christie’s popular original murder mystery play ‘The Mouse Trap’. Moreover, Sandesh Bendre’s wonderful set design, Sheetal Talpade’s superb light effects, Mangal Kenkre’s perfect costumes and Ajit Parab‘s suitable music, has helped to create that desired impact on the audience. However, without the superb performances of the artistes, it would not have been possible to hold the audience to their seats from start to finish.
Two characters, namely Inspector Bhosale (Shantanu Moghe) and Amit Desai( Angad Mhaskar) find enough scope to display their acting skills with the help of their rich voice and perfect body language respectively. ‘Subhedar Guest House’ is certainly a worth watch play for all those who love to watch plays with action filled murder mystery.
Teaser of ‘Maya’ unfolds emotional complexities in relationship

Produced by Dr. Sunil Datar, Alka Madhukar Datar and Nitin Prakash Vaidya, this film will be released all over on 27th February 2026.
Mukta Barve to give surprise during this new year with ‘Maya’
Mukta Barve is a versatile Marathi actress who has lots of admirers. In fact, her well wishers are keen to know about her next film’s release date. For them, the big news is that Mukta’s next film ‘Maya’ will be released on 27th February 2026. Produced by Shalini Cinemas and Nitin Vaidya Productions, this film is directed by Aditya Ingale.

Rccently, poster of this film was released and the big news is that this film has been selected for screening before its release for the 24th Pune International film festival. Besides Mukta playing the central character, this film also stars Siddharth Chandekar, Rohini Hattangadi and Dr. Girish Oak in lead roles. One thing is sure that the selection of this film for the Pune international film festival , clearly indicates that this film has presented a good and strong subject to appeal the audience.
‘Don Vajun Bavis Minitanni’ offers a good Horror comedy and suspense drama
Produced by Ajay Vichare, written by Niraj Shivaikar, directed by Vijay kenkre, new Marathi play ‘Don Vajun Bavis Minitanni (दोन वाजुन बावीस मिनिटानी)’ offers a good horror comedy filled suspense drama, which revolves around a big house located at a hill station, Panchgani.
Ketan (Aniket Vishwasrao) and Ritika (Gautami Deshpande) after the birth of their baby move from Mumbai to this old house in Panchgani, as Ketan wants to settle down at a new quiet place with a bigger space. They buy this big house from an old lady. Ketan renovates this new house by changing many original things and leaves for Himachal Pradesh on an excursion trip, leaving behind Ritika and the baby. After his return, Ritika invites Ketan’s old friend Sonali (Rasika Sunil) a psychologist and her husband (Priyadarshan Jadhav) who is into house décor business.

When all four of them are together for drinks & dinner, Rutika reveals to her guests that their new house is haunted. Ketan rules out Rutika’s belief and tries to persuade all of them. But, Rutika suggests her guests to stay overnight and experience the strange happenings at a particular time, during midnight; i.e. at 2 hours 22 minutes. After a lot of persuasion Ketan also agrees and what they experience is seen in the last 20 minutes climax of this play.
But, from start till this climax begins, director Vijay Kenkre has given full justice to this suspense filled story of writer Shivaikar, by incorporating interesting happennings to keep the audience engaged in this suspense filled story. Every character is developed very well, offering them enough scope for their acting skills. But, the actor who generates more laughter through his simple dialogues, is Priyadarshan Jadhav. His has used the village dialect very well, maintaining a perfect timing, that too with ease, in every important situation.

Besides wonderful realistic performances coming from all the four characters, the technical team offers very good support. Suitable set designing by Shital Talpade and sound effects by experts engaged, makes this play more presentable. The digital clock openly visible on the front wall of the set, clearly indicates the time of happening of every important sequence in this suspense filled drama. In fact, the opening scene of this drama itself invites all the attention of the audience. Only shortcoming noticed was that the audience seated on the right corners of the auditorium were denied the sight of the staircase, which also plays an important role in this drama. Surely, the set designer will look into this aspect, during the next shows.
All in all, ‘Don Vajun Bavis Minitanni’ is a good entertainer for all those who love to watch suspense and horror filled plays. Dialogues are well written and go very well with every situation. Thanks to the makers for presenting this wonderful plot live on stage. And this shows the progress of our Marathi drama presenters , making good use of latest technology .
Actor Sandesh Jadhav to play Police Officer for the first time in a Marathi play

Popularly known for his character of a Police officer in Marathi films and TV serials, Actor Sandesh Jadhav will now be playing a Police officer in a suspense filled Marathi play ‘You Must Die’ . This play is produced by Aditi Rao, written by Niraj Shirvaikar and directed by Vijay Kenkre. Along with Sandesh Jadhav, this play also stars Sharvari Lohakare, Saurabh Gokhale, Neha Kulkarni, Ajinkya Bhosale, Harshal Mhamunkar, Pramod Kadam, Vinita Date and Dhanesh Potdar.
Speaking about his role in this play, Sandesh Jadhav says,” Having played a Police officer in so many films and TV serials, I was actually avoiding to play a Police officer in Marathi plays and had even rejected such offers. But, when this offer to play a Police officer in ‘You Must Die’ came to me, I was impressed by the story. Moreover, this play was directed by Vijay kenkre and therefore I agreed to play this role. My role has different shades and therefore I get the pleasure of presenting them live on stage.”
No wonder, his role in this play and this suspense filled play is well accepted by the audience.
Vijay Kenkre to celebrate Cenutry of his plays with ‘Kali Rani’

Renowned dramatist and director Vijay Kenkre is all set to celebrate the Century of his plays with his new Marathi play ‘Kali Rani‘ on 11th December 2022. Interestingly, with this inaugural show of ‘Kali Rani’ Vijay Kenkre’s other associates in this play will also be creating new records. This will be writer Ratnakar Matkari’s 90th play, Production designer Pradeep Mule’s 200th play, Music director Ajit Parab’s 40th play, Costume designer Mangal Kenkre’s 50th play, Light effect specialist Sheetal Talpade’s 125th play Akshar Shedge’s 1400th play and Dr. Girish Oak’s 50th play. Above all, Dr. Girish Oak will be appearing in his 6,666 th stage performance through this inaugural show.
Produced by Priya Patil, Dr. Madhuri Sarnaik, Anita Mahajan,Rutuja Shidam and directed by Vijay Kenkre this play revolves around three important characters in film industry- an actress who wants to rule over this industry, a writer whose every film has become a silver Jubilee hit and a showman producer who has given scope to this actress and director in this industry. Dr. Girish Oak, Harish Dudhade and Manva Naik play the lead roles along with Chandralekha Joshi and Anand Patil. We are all aware that Vijay Kenkre who has so far offered variety of subjects through his successful plays, is also expected to give his best direction in this play too
A crow named ‘Martin’ is doing the promotion of the film ‘Funeral’

Ever since the poster of Marathi film ‘Funeral (फनरल)’ was launched in a crematorium, this film has been in the news. Now, this film is the topic of discussion for its unique promotion at different film festivals, including IFFI, for using a huge crow who is named ‘Martin’ in this film.
The film gives a valid message through its unusual tagline ‘Jagu Anande Nighu Anande’ which says a lot about living happily and departing happily. This film has been made by little known young film makers pair comprising of Producer and script writer Ramesh Dighe and director Vivek Dube. Crow, which is considered to be inauspicious among other birds in our religion, is presented as an important character in this film, with whom the lead character of Aroh Velankar communicates.

In short, the film makers have tried to explain the importance of a crow, during the 10th day of the post death rituals; when people are eager to feed the crow. This film starring Aroh Velankar, Tanvi Barve, Sambhaji Bhagat, Prema Sakhardande, Vijay Kenkre is now all set to release on 10th June 2022 .
Hrishikesh and Priyadarshan come together for ‘Chhupe Rustam’

Both Hrishikesh Joshi and Priyadarshan Jadhav have established themselves as writer, director and actors in Marathi entertainment industry. Now, these two stalwarts will be coming together for a Marathi stage play ‘Chhupe Rustam (छुपे रुस्तम)’ on 15th May, when the inaugural show of this play will be presented at Dinanath Mangeshkar Natygruh at 4.15 pm followed by another show at Shivaji Mandir, Dadar on 16th May at 3.30 pm.
Produced by Priya Patil and Anita Mahajan under the banner of Pravesh and Disha this play is directed by Vijay Kenkre. This play is written by Tejas Ranade. Production design is by Sandesh Bendre, Music is by Ajit Parab and Light effects by Shital Talpade. Earlier, the producers had presented popular plays like ‘Galti Se Mistake’ and ‘Don’t Worry Ho Jayega’. Speaking about their roles in this play, both Hrishikesh and Priyadarshan have said that they consider it privilege while working with reputed director like Vijay Kenkre .
’38 Krushna Villa’ will be Dr. Girish Oak’s 50th play

Dr. Girish Oak is a versatile actor, having performed in various stage plays, TV serials and films. His 50 th play ’38 Krushna Villa (’38 कृष्ण व्हिला’)’ directed by Vijay Kenkre will soon be staged with the inaugural show to be held at Deenanath Mangeshkar Natyagruh @ 4.15 pm on 19th March 2022. This will be followed by 2nd show at Gadkari Rangayatan, Thane on 20th March 2022 @ 4.30 pm.

This play is produced by Mihir Gavali and is written by Shweta Pendse, who has also performed lead role in this play opposite Dr. Girish Oak. Production designer is Sandesh Bendre, while Mangal Kenkre has designed the costumes. Music is by Ajit Parab and Shital Talpade has handled the light effects.
In this play Dr. Girish Oak plays a high profile character of Devdutt Kamat whoi is accused by a stranger woman Nandini Chitre with some serious charges. And then begins the challenge before Devdutt Kamat to prove himself not guilty.
Sachit Patil returns to stage with Paresh Rawal presented Marathi play ‘Maharathi’
Writer Uttam Gada found fame with his super hit long running Gujarati Play ‘Maharathi’ directed and enacted by Paresh Rawal which was played in multiple languages in different countries. Now, Paresh Rawal has presented this play in Marathi, which finds good audience. This adaptation in Marathi is translated by Shweta Pendse and is Directed by Vijay Kenkre. It is understood that the original writer’s plot is inspired by a James Hadley Chase novel, “There’s Always a Price Tag”. And this will surely invite the attention of Marathi theatre audience.

Incidentally, in a short time this play produced by Vinayak Gavande & Ninad karpe under the banner of Badam Raja Productions has been receiving good response and the next two back to back shows will be staged on Friday 30th August @4.30 pm at Gadkari Rangayatan, Thane followed by Saturday 8 pm show on 31st August 2019 at Shivaji Mandir , Dadar.
Popular Marathi film star Sachit Patil has returned to Marathi stage after a long time through this suspense filled play. The other main artistes of this play are, Sunil Tawde, Madhavi Nimkar, Vivek Gore, Archana Nipankar, Sunil Jadhav & Vijay Kenkre. Lyrics by Mandar Chonkar, music by Ajit Parab, light effects by Sheetal Talpade and costumes by Mangal kenkre are the other credits of this play.
