Now, for this Diwali they have a choice, as two Marathi films of different genres are released this Friday. While ‘Triple Seat’ starring Ankush Chaudhari, Shivani Surve and Pallavi Patil seems to be a light hearted entertaining love story, ‘Hirakani’ starring Sonalee Kulkarni and Chinmay Mandlekar presents the historical story of a mother, from the period of Shivaji, who scaled down the steep edges of the Raigad fort to reach out to her baby, not caring for her own life. It is this courage displayed by this leading lady , she received the honours with the title ‘Hirkani’.

As Ankush will be returning to Marathi films in the lead role after a gap of two years, it will be interesting to watch him in this so called masala entertainer. Another highlight of this film is the entry of Bollywood actor Rakesh Bedi in an important role. On the other hand, ‘Hirakani‘ which is a period film directed by Prasad Oak, has something worth to convey from the history of Maharashtra. ‘Bakaal’ trailer promises big action on Marathi screen
Stunts and actions are part of South Indian films. No wonder our Bollywood film makers have been attempting remakes of such films. In Marathi we have noticed very few stunt and action films . But now, director Sameer Athalye is all set to release his latest Marathi action film ‘Bakaal’. Recently, trailer of this film was released on social media, which clearly promises a big action on Marathi screen. The highlight of this film is that it has found a suitable hero in Chaitanya Mestry who is known for performing his own action and stunts besides being a dancing star. The story of this film is based on a real life incidence in Vidarbha, Maharashtra , where a group of anti social elements called ‘Bakaal’ was surprisingly eliminated by self styled security group. This being a tailor made screenplay for the lead hero, Chaitanya is seen performing the daredevil action scenes in the trailer of this film. Late Dada Kondke’s ‘Andhala Martoy Dola’ returns to Bharatmata Cinema
At a time when there are not many Marathi films being released these days, it is not a bad idea to re-release old Marathi hit films once again for the new generation. And Bharatmata Cinema the oldest single screen theatre existing in Central Mumbai has shown the way. The theatre owners have preferred to re –release Late Dada Kondke’s hit film ‘Andhala Marto Dola’. And, this is certainly a very good move to preserve the Marathi culture, instead of surrendering the cinema hall to Hindi films.

It may be recalled that for almost three decades since early 70s dada Kondke had ruled Marathi film industry with a big fan following all over Maharashtra. His films used to be released when Dada Kondke ‘Andhala Marto Dola’ was one of Dada Kondke’s hit film, directed by him and had played lead role opposite Aruna Irani . There are other hit films of Dada Kondke, like ‘Songadya’, ‘Pandu Hawaldar’, ‘Ekta Jeev Sadashiv’, ‘Ram Ram Gangaram’ and so on , which were equally entertaining. So, we can expect the series to continue, when no Marathi film is released during a particular week.
Today, Bharatmata is the only theatre which is sure to have a houseful audience for Marathi films even today. Besides Bharatmata, there is only Plaza cinema as singles screen theatre in Mumbai for Marathi films. Central has now switched over to Hindi films. All other theatres like Majestic, Kohinoor and others have been converted into multiplexes.

Actress Smita tambe does beach cleaning at Madh
Every citizen has some social commitment to the society. Now, how he or she does it, depends upon every individual. We have even seen our Prime Minister picking up plastic lying at the beach of Mahabalipuram recently. This is certainly inspiring. Now, if our Marathi artistes do anything like this, it will send across a good message to the society.

Recently, Smita Tambe was seen cleaning the Madh beach, which is known for film shooting. Smita lives at Madh and every morning she goes for a walk there. When she observed the plastic waste lying at the beach, she decided to clean it on her own. Smita says, “Even if the municipal workers are cleaning this beach, the plastic waste which keeps on coming at the beach through the sea is very much on the rise. We often clean our house, but it is necessary to clean the surrounding of our house also. Clening the beach after ganapati immersion is not enough, we need to volunteer ourselves to keep the beach clean on a daily basis.”
We are sure, watching the initiative by Smita, more and more people will come forward to join her for this just cause.
