After 28 years Neelakanti Patekar returns to big screen

28 years ago, Neelakanti Patekar was seen in a lifetime role, in Sachin Pilgaonkar’s film ‘Aatmavishvaas‘. At that time, she had received instant appreciation from critics, for her memorable role. But, for the past 28 years, we had not seen Neelakanti Patekar in any films, except for the news that she was being considered for the role of Nana Patekar‘s screen wife in the film ‘Natsamrat‘. But, that did not happen, as the role went to Medha Manjrekar.

Now, we hear that Neelakanti, will be making a comeback on big screen, through Producer-director Neelima Lonari‘s forthcoming Marathi film ‘ Bernie‘ , which is all set to release on 17th June 2016. In this film she is playing the most important role of Clara, mother of Bernie, which is played by beautiful Tejaswini Lonari. Speaking about her role in this film, Neelakanti Patekar said, “Long ago I had read this novel ‘Jogin’ written by Subhash Bhende. Since this film is inspired by this novel, I immediately agreed to play this role.” Apart from Neelakanti Patekar and Tejaswini Lonari, the film also stars versatile artistes like Rajan Tamhane, Bhushan Patil, Girish Pardeshi, Savita Malpekar, Sumukhi Pendse, Mausami Tondvalkar, Radhika Deshpande and others. Music by Amitraj & camera by Sameer Athalye are other credits.

Neha Rajpal’s ‘Photo Copy’ to release on 16th September

We are all aware that Popular Singer Neha Rajpal had turned Marathi film producer, when she had announced her first home production ‘Photo Copy‘, two years ago. Now, her film has completed shooting and now Viacom18 Motion Pictures have decided to release her much awaited film on 16th September 2016.

Photo Copy’ is a fun filled college love story, which promises to offer fresh teenage story with good music. The film is directed by National Award Winner – Vijay Maurya and stars veteran actress Vandana Gupte, debutant Chetan Chitnis and Parna Pethe in the lead.

Speaking about her film, Producer Neha Rajpal says , “I am extremely delighted that my very first Marathi film production is being presented by ‘Viacom18′ – an international studio which has a repute to produce some very creative and out of the box films. I am hopeful that together we can bring a new element and vibe in Marathi films, through ‘Photo Copy’. This is the beginning of a long term creative collaboration of Neha Rajpal Productions & Viacom18 Motion Pictures, I am looking forward to many other such endeavours in the future”.

‘Half Ticket’ to release on 15th July

Director Samit Kakkad, who gave us Marathi film Aayna Ka Bayna is back. This time, he has directed another Marathi film ‘Half Ticket’, which revolves around the dreams of two children. The film is now ready for release on 15th July 2016. Shubham More and Vinayak Potdar are playing these two important characters in this film. And, with them, in supporting roles will be Bhau Kadam, Usha Naik, Shashank Shende, Jaywant wadkar, Priyanka Bose, Kailash Waghmare. The film is produced by Video Palace.

Recently, the teaser of this film along with a song video was released in presence of invitees and entire team of the film. Cinematography by Sanjay Memane, art direction by Vasu Patil, sound designing by Anmol Bhave and music by by G.V.Prakash are the other credits of this film. Based on the story of M.Manikdan, the script of the film is written by Dnyanesh Zoting.

Veteran actress Sulbha Deshpande passes away

Veteran Marathi & Hindi film, TV and stage actress Sulbha Deshpande is no more. She passed away today, after being ill for sometime. She was 80. Four months ago MarathiMovieworld met Sulbhatai during the shooting of her Marathi film Braveheart , when she was shooting a serious scene with a child star. This was the last film, we saw her performing. Incidentally, she was also part of a popular TV serial Asmita, but had not seen her on small screen, perhaps due to her illness. Sulbha Deshpande, besides performing in Marathi films, had also acted in over 73 movies mainstream Bollywood as well as art house cinema, like ‘Bhumika‘ (1977), ‘Arvind Desai Ki Ajeeb Dastaan‘ (1978) and ‘Gaman‘ (1978) as a character actor, apart from numerous TV series and plays. A leading figure in experimental theatre movement of the 1960s, she was associated with Rangayan, and great personalities like Vijay Tendulkar, Vijaya Mehta, and Satyadev Dubey. In 1971 she co-founded, theatre group, Awishkar with her husband Arvind Deshpande, and also started its children’s wing, Chandrashala, which continues to perform professional children theatre

She was awarded the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1987. She also received the award, Tanveer Sanman in 2010. She has also been honoured by various other awards like Nanasaheb Phatak Puraskar, Ganpatrao Joshi Puraskar, Vasantrao Kanetkar Puraskar, Kusumagraj Puraskar, Rangabhoomi Jeevan Gaurav Puraskar and Sarvashrestha Kalagaurav Puraskar by Sanskruti Kaladarpan.

‘Damalelya Babachi Kahani’ offers Sandeep Khare in a lifetime role

With new producers entering Marathi film industry, now Vishal Dhanavade has produced a family social film ‘Damlelya Babachi Kahani‘, which is all set to release on 24th June 2016. The film offers lyricist turned actor Sandeep Khare in a lifetime role. The film has been inspired from his own song, with the same name. Recently, poster and promo of this film was launched in Pune, with the Maha Aarti at the Sharda Ganapati of Akhil Mandai Mandal. On this occasion, many prominent people from Pune were present, including Marathi Chitrapat Mahamandal President Meghraj Rajebhosale, directors Nitin Chavan & Yogesh Jadhav.

Sandeep Khare who is playing the lead role in ‘Damlelya Babachi Kahani‘ film, was also present along with other artistes of the film Deepti Bhagwat and child star Shreya Pasalkar. The film also stars Kishor Kadam, Sanskruti Balgude, Jyoti Chandekar, Astad Kale, Kishor Chaughule, Bhagyashree Desai, Mukta Karandikar & Milind Shintre. The film has already invited the attention of film festival organisers. No wonder, this film will be screened at Nashik and Goa international film festivals. On 24th June 2016, it will be released all over Maharashtra.

Shooting of ‘Copy’ progresses with completion of first schedule

Now days, there are more and more films in Marathi focusing on the inner feelings of children. This enables the parents to understand their children very well. Now, one more Marathi film ‘Copy‘ directed by Hemant Dhabade & Dayasagar Wankhede and produced by Ganesh Patil & Shankar Patil will be offered to the audience soon. The film stars talented Marathi artistes like Milind Shinde, Kamalesh Sawant, Anshuman Vichare, Jagannath Nivangune, Poonam Rane, Vidya Bhagwat, Vipul Salunkhe, Anil Nagarkar and others.

According to the directors, film ‘Copy‘ makes a strong statement on education system. But, besides that it also touches upon the other relevant issues connected with parents and children. Some of the happenings in the film are based on real life incidences. The makers of ‘Copy‘ have recently completed the first shooting schedule of this film and will be progressing further to complete this film as early as possible. Music by Rohan-Rohan and cinematography by Santaneo Trazio are the other credits of this film. The story of this film is based on original concept by Ganesh Ramachandra Patil, which has been developed into screenplay by the director duo.

‘Bai Vadyavar Ya’ song from ‘Jalsa’ will be a tribute to Nilu Phule

Nilu Phule was a renowned personality  in Marathi film industry during 70s and 80s. During his acting career of 40 years, he has performed in about 60 Marathi and Hindi films. He was very popular as a villain . In spite of portraying cruel characters on screen, he was very popular amongst women because of his good off screen image. His famous dialogue in most of the films ‘Bai Vadyavar Ya’ had reached instant popularity during 70s and 80s.

Now, Studio 9 Entertainment through their forthcoming film Jalsa will pay tributes to this legendary Marathi actor, by using his famous dialogue in the lyrics of a song from this film. Penned by Ashutosh Raj, who is also directing this film, the music for this song is composed by Sameer Saptiskar and the dance performed on this song by Manasi Naik is choreographed by Rajesh Bidve. Anand Shinde has rendered this song, which according to the makers of this film, would a be a instant hit song.

After making a film like ‘Sangato Aika‘ with Sachin Pilgaonkar, Vidhi Kasliwal is now towards completion of her new venture ‘Vazandaar‘ under the banner of Landmarc Films, with another exciting subject and an equally talented star cast, comprising of Priya Bapat Kamat, Sai TamhankarSiddharth ChandekarChirag Patil and Chetan Chitnis.

Director Sachin Kundalkar, well known for dealing with unique topics through his films, has come up with yet another compelling story.  ‘ Vazandaar‘ has a very personal subject and it struck the chords with producer Vidhi Kasliwal, who has been all praise for the writer- director. ” Sachin is a very sensitive and sharp person who open-mindedly takes all suggestions and beautifully weaves them into the layers of the film,” says Vidhi Kasliwal.

Manglmurti Films, Kimaya Motion Pictures, Dr Monish Babre and director Shekhar Sartandel recently launched their film ‘Ekk Albela‘s iconic song ‘Shola Jo Bhadke‘ in presence of Vidya Balan. We are all aware that ‘Ekk Albela‘ is a biopic on India’s first dancing and action hero Bhagwan Dada and his extraordinary journey, as he went out to become one of the biggest legends of Hindi cinema.

Directed by Shekhar Sartandel, ‘Ekk Albela‘ a features award winning versatile actor Mangesh Desai as Bhagwan Dada and the charming Vidya Balan portraying the role of renowned yesteryear’s actress Geeta Bali, in her debut Marathi film.

The most popular song ‘Shola Jo Bhadke‘ which featured in the Bhagwan Dada-Geeta Bali starrer Albela (1951) has been recreated in ‘Ekk Albela‘. And, this song was launched by Vidya Balan, in presence of Mangesh Desai, director Shekhar Sartandel, producers Sangeeta Ahir, Krrish Ahir and producer Dr Monish Babre.

During this gala event , Vidya not only surprised the invitees & media persons with that typical Geeta Bali’s get up, but also performed on this popular song, along with her co-star Mangesh Desai. This Marathi film explores the era between 1930 to 1951 has several dialogues in Hindi and two Hindi songs from the original film ‘Albela‘, including ‘Shola Jo Bhadke‘ and ‘Bholi Surat Dil Ke Khote‘.

Speaking on the occasion, Vidya Balan said, “I’ve been brought up in Mumbai and well-versed with the Maharashtrian culture. ‘Mee Mumbai chi laadki mulgi aahe!’ When the makers approached me with the idea of recreating Albela, I instantly agreed to do it. There couldn’t have been a better debut Marathi film than Ekk Albela.

Mangesh Desai expressed , “Bhagwan Dada was the first Marathi actor who made it big in Bollywood. He was an artist par excellence. To play Bhagwan Dada in the right way was a huge responsibility. I’m thankful to the producers who believed in me and the fact that I can pull it off.

Ekk Albela‘ is all set to releases on 24th June, 2016.
