Phuntroo’ will be a sci- fi love story
Young and talented Ketaki Mategaonkar seems to be lucky mascot for director Sujay Dahake. They have worked together earlier in ‘Shaala‘ which won the Silver Lotus award at 59th National Film Awards in the ‘Best Feature Film in Marathi’ category. The film got accolades all over India and abroad for its content. However, Sujay’s second film ‘Aajoba‘ was not well appreciated by the audience, in spite of having Urmila Matondkar in the lead and she doing her first Marathi movie.
Now, Producers of ‘Taani‘ (which fetched two major Maharashtra State Awards), Vandana Thakur and Ajay Thakur under the banner of V Patke films are coming out with a new Marathi film ‘Phuntroo‘. Claimed to be the first of its kind, on Marathi screen, it’s a love story with a backdrop of science fiction, to be directed by Sujay Dahake. The makers have signed Ketaki Mategaonkar in the lead, who is thoroughly exited to do something thrilling, while rest of the cast is yet to be finalised.
Much awaited ‘Avatarachi Gostha’ to release soon
Since our childhood we have been hearing stories of incarnation of God, from elderly people in the family. What would happen if the child starts behaving, as if he is manifestation of God ? Producer Sachin Salunkhe has used this theme in his forthcoming film ‘Avatarachi Goshta’ , which is directed by Nitin Dixit on his own script.
The film presents Mihiresh Joshi and Yash Kulkarni as debutant child artistes through this film. The other important artistes of the film are Adinath Kothare, Sulabha Deshpande, Sunil Abhyankar, Leena Bhagwat, and Rashmi Khedekar.
‘Avatarachi Goshta’ has already been honoured with Best Film, Best Dialogues and Best Direction Awards at the 51st Maharashtra State Marathi Film Awards 2014. At the Zee Gaurav 2014 the film received the honours for Best Film, Best Story, Best Dialogue and also the Best Supporting Actress. Even at Sahyadri Cine Awards 2014, the film received the Best Film, Best Story and Best Child Artists’ award.
The film is also doing good promotion on social networking site by creating a buzz through comic stripes, which has invited the attention of many viewers. The film is now ready for release.
Technically, ‘Ishq wala Love’ is the best Marathi film, done so far’ – Renu Desai
In the recent times, lots of Non-Maharashtrian names are appearing in the credits of the Marathi films as producers. It’s a welcome trend, as Marathi movie audience are witnessing bigger, brighter movies at theatres.
One such producer, born to Gujarati parents, brought up in cultural capital of Maharashtra, Pune, a former model and a big star of Telugu movies who has produced a successful Marathi movie ‘Mangalashtak Once More‘ and now she is producing another movie ‘Ishq wala Love‘, in which she is debuting as a director. She is Renu Desai.
While talking to Marathi Movie World (MMW) she candidly said “I make cinema for the love of cinema and not for money. Since this is my debut film as a director, I have ensured that the best technical team is available, without any compromises, on the production front. The top 4 pillars are handled by some of the best professionals in the film industry. Art direction is by Kshamata. We are using Auro 3D sound 11.1 (normally its 5.1). Yash Raj film’s editor is handling editing. And not to forget legendary Binod Pradhan, an ace cinematographer, who has impeccably captured the beauty of Mauritius (where major part of the film is shot) like no one else. Technically, my film is the best Marathi film done so far.”
MMW asked, whether there were too many love stories doing rounds in the recent times, Renu said, “Ishq wala Love was to be released in July this year, but got delayed due to technical reasons. And I think it’s just coincidence that all these films are coming around the same time.’ This movie has a twin brother as it is being dubbed in Telugu.” Since lots of Telugu fans and well wishers wanted to watch movie directed by her, decision of dubbing in Telugu was taken at the last minute. Incidentally, her 10 year old son too is making his film debut through this movie, with an important, though small, role.
Artists of this movie, Aadinath Kothare, Sulagna Panigrahi, Bhargavi Chirmule were also interacting with media in a jovial manner. Aadinath said that he looks fabulous in this movie, only because of the cinematographer Binod Pradan’s magical camera work. Sulagna was laughing when saying, “My co-actors used to be sort of tensed, for the fear whether I would say my dialogues properly or not. But they have been very supportive.” Bhargavi confessed that, she to be filmed by Binod Pradhan enticed her to do Sulgna’s sister’s role.
Renu Desai has 3 films lined up, 1 Marathi to be directed by her,1hindi to be produced and directed, and 1 Telugu to be produced by her. But, let us first wait for the release of ‘Ishq wala Love‘.
Tapaal’ will be delivered to audience on 26th Sept
Having made its impact at various international film festivals, finally Marathi film ‘Tapaal‘ will be delivered to the audience on 26th September 2014. Well known cinematographer of bollywood films like ‘English Vinglish‘, ‘Boss‘ and ‘Blue‘, is all set to make his debut as a director, through this film, besides doing the cinematography and writing dialogues.
It may be recalled that ‘Tapaal‘ was premiered at South Korea’s Busan Int. Film Festival, where it received a good response. the film also won best actress award for Veena Jamkar at the South African film festival, for Indian films. Recently, at the Maharashtra State Awards child actor of this film Rohit Utekar and lyricist Prakash Holkar won awards. And, hence the film has raised a lot of curiosity, about its subject.
‘Tapaal’ stars Nandu Madhav, Rohit Utekar, Veena Jamkar, Urmila Matondkar, Jaywant Wadkar,Ganga Gogavle and Milind Gunaji in special appearance. The unique story of this film is written by Mangesh Hadavale.
Music is the 7th character in ‘7 Roshan Villa’
In the midst of love stories crowding Marathi movie world, a completely different genre film is about to hit big screen, ‘7, Roshan Villa’. It’s a welcome move for the betterment of Marathi cinema that producer Abhijit Prabhakar Bhosle is opting to go a different route in the form of suspense thriller, in his first movie itself.
At Music release function of the film, ‘7, Roshan Villa’, Mr Saundattikar, Chairman, Ichalkaranji bank, did the honours of releasing the music of the film. Smita Gavankar was the hostess for the evening. Music director duo Abhijit-Vishwajit happens to be music arrangers for Shreya Ghoshal as well as Bela Shende for over a decade. Also they are amongst well known music composers of Marathi movies. There are only two songs in the film and Shreya and Bela have lent their voices to one each.
Both the songs screened at the event looks promising. “In suspense thriller movies more than acting, camera and music play pivotal parts. In fact in our film Music is the 7th character. And our producer had given a free hand so that good quality music is created” Prasad Oak was saying. Tejaswini Pandit opined that in all art forms, music is the blessed one. She congratulated producer for daring enough to go against the wave in Marathi cinema. Sonali Khare was also present at the venue. Abhijit said “We, as composers, love suspense thrillers. And songs in this movie do not interrupt, but instead take the narration and storyline further”.
Bela’s (Shende) inputs have made the song very effective’. Bela Shende expressed that she loved experimenting in the song, like inserting whispers, husks, growls and happy with the end result. Vishwajit explained nuances of background musical and explained the concept of Vocal Collage. India’s one of the top two violinists, Jitendra Thakur was present and played violin, live. Lyricist Satyajit Ranade thanked composer duo and said ‘both of them narrated the situation and made me think like film’s character so as to get proper emotions in the wordings’.

Manasi Moghe’s special laavani song for ‘Bugadi Mazi Sandli Ga’
In earlier times almost every Marathi movie had to have ‘Laavni’ in it. In fact Laavni became synonymous with Marathi cinema. In recent times Laavni has been recognised only as an item number in regional or national language films. To give impetus to this dying folk art form, Von Ryan Entertainment and Ticket Films are coming out with a new Marathi movie ‘Bugadi Mazi Sandli Ga‘ which is primarily based on Laavni.
During the shoot at Future studio at Goregaon, Mumbai, the cast and crew interacted with the media people. The name ‘Bugadi Mazi Sandli Ga‘ has been derived from a retro and very popular Laavni song’s opening line, enacted and made famous by legendary yesteryear Marathi star Jayashree Gadkar. Speaking on the occasion, director of the movie, Mansingh Pawar said “Since this movie is based on the culture of Laavni , the film has to be a musical. There are 9 songs out of which 6 are laavnis. Choreographer Deepali Vichare has taken pains to show all the Laavni forms in this movie. We have taken care to please the family audiences by keeping in mind the sensitive subject.” The hero of the film returns to India after studying western music for 10 years from USA, to study Indian folk Laavni, and its various forms/aspects, falls in love with a beautiful Laavni performer. Due to cultural and social differences the couple come across many hurdles and overcome this ordeal to come together, is the one line of this musical romantic film ‘BMSG‘.
Miss India 2013, Manasi Moghe, is debuting in this movie. “I am utterly enjoying this process of film making. My director and dance director have taken special efforts on me, so that I can deliver my best, in dramatic scenes or dancing” said Manasi. When asked why she chose Marathi movie as her debut movie she laughingly said’ why not? I am a ‘ Marathi mulgi’. And in first film itself I am getting an opportunity to perform difficult dance form, that to on six laavnis. ‘Taptapadi‘ fame actor Kashyap Parulekar said, “Though the character represents today’s youth, I have taken special efforts after researching, about the body language and spoken language. I am really happy to be chosen to play this part by the director“‘
Producing a movie for the first time, producer Shyam Singhania stated, “I am a Mumbaikar and able to speak Marathi reasonably well, always wanted to be associated with Marathi movies and when Mansingh Pawar came to me with this project, I lapped it up, the film being musical as I am an avid music lover. Without going overboard on budget, we have not compromised on cost front.” Ila Bhate is of the view that though she has played mother many times before this, this was a refreshing experience to portray loving yet conscious of consequences mother in ‘BMSG‘. Actor and dress designer Deepa Chafekar assured that without giving up on the cultural heritage the costumes will be appealing to the young generation. DOP Raja Phadtare expressed his views about being provided camera like Alexa, which is used in top production movies, which helped to create the magic required on screen. Also he has experimented with lighting to create required moods.
The story, screenplay, dialogues and direction is by experienced Mansingh Pawar. Music department is handled by Babru Bhosle, Pravin Kanwar, and Sachin-Dipesh. The cast comprises of Manasi Moghe, Kashyap Parulekar, Mohan Joshi, Ila Bhate , Deepa Chafekar, and Ramesh Bhatkar.
The movie is in its last stage of production and expected to release by the year end

First look of a new Marathi movie ‘Happy Journey‘ was launched at famous studios. two national award winning director Sachin Kundalkar was saying ‘ ‘Happy Journey‘ is the first journey movie in Marathi. Also it’s a happy, young, vibrant love story where brother-sister relationship plays an integral part. I always wanted to to do a fantasy. Referring to journey “I want to go on a house caravan (which is a house on wheels, popular in USA).’
‘What is the dominant part while going into production?’ when MarathiMovieWorld asked producer Sanjay Chhabria replied “Story is the important factor, then comes in the actors appropriately suited for roles. I believe in concentrating on one film at a time. On an average I do two films in a year. In the last five years in the Marathi film industry I have produced nine films“. Happy Journey‘s cast comprises of national award winning actor Atul Kulkarni, Priya Bapat, Pallavi Subhash, and Siddarth Menon. The Film is scheduled for release in next month.
Atul Kulkarni referred this film to be modern brother-sister relationship story, wherein his character goes through transformation during the journey. Priya’s energy is infectious and it rubbed on the entire unit while shooting. “Whatever notions I had about Atul, vanished after meeting him. He is very open, friendly, and positive person and I really enjoyed working with him.” Priya Bapat opined. Pallavi Subhash always admired Sachin’s work, who also is a good friend of hers, was pleasantly surprised when he offered her this goan catholic girl’s role opposite Atul, who also happens to be very good friend. Said Pallavi. Since workshops were arranged and rehearsals done beforehand, it became easier while actual shooting.’ Appearing on big screen after ‘Popat’, Siddarth Menon ‘ since I was required to display array of emotions, I thoroughly enjoyed this journey’.

Superstar Salman Khan unveils the music of ‘Sanngto Aika’
Bollywood’s most popular superstar Salman Khan unveiled the music of a new Marathi movie ‘Sangto Aika‘ at Blue Sea, worli sea face, on 15th sept ’14 amidst a thunderous applause of large gathering. The charisma of superstar could be felt because almost everybody (Inclusive of famous Marathi film stars) wanted to have a word or a photo with him. It was a touching sight when he very lovingly hugged his screen mother Reema. On the occasion he wished the whole team of ‘Sanngto Aika‘ grand success and hoped that collections will cross recent successful Marathi movie in which he did a cameo.
Vidhi Kasliwal, producer of the film under the banner of Landmarc Films, released the First Look of the movie. Being a first time producer of Marathi movie she said “I feel lucky and privileged because of the support shown by the Marathi film industry towards us and in my first film itself we got to work with stalwarts like Sachinji and Satishji.” Satish Rajwade, director of ‘Sangto Ailka‘, expressed “In all my films Content is King and am thankful to Landmarc Films and my producer Vidhi Kasliwal for believing in a subject like Sangto Aika. Also it’s a dream come true directing a very humble superstar Sachinji.” Music director duo Avinash-Vishwajeet said that they are confident of the music of Sangto Aika as the tunes and lyrics will appeal to all genres of music lovers. lyricists being Shrirang Godbole, Guru Thakur, and Damayanti wagh and voices rendersd by multi-talented Sachin, Sonu Nigam, Bela Shende, Urmila Dhangar. Tall girl Pooja Sawant, who is also the part of the movie, hosted the show smartly and later the reins were taken over by director Satish Rajwade. Bhau Kadam and Vaibhav Mangle kept the audiences in splits with their one-liners in a comedy skit. Sanskruti Balgude gyrated on a Laavni number amid whistles and claps. Ever youthful Sachin sang Fu Bai Fu song from the movie, beautifully, live.
Many celebrities across Hindi and Marathi film industry graced the occasion in large numbers. Dalip Tahil, Satish Shah, Ali Asgar, Prachi Shah, Sachin along with his charming wife Supriya and daughter Shreya, Ashok Saraf, Mahesh Kothare, Reema with daughter, Hemangi Kavi who was sincerely cheering comic timing in comedy skit, very radiant Shruti Marathe, suave Manisha Kelkar, Terence Lewis, Phulwa Khamkar were also spotted.
‘Pahili Bhet’ hitting cinemas on 19th sept’14
In life, there are certain moments which are unforgettable, especially if it is regarding one’s first love. Everybody, who has fallen in love in life, cherishes that moment of first meeting with one’s beloved, may be with a thumping heart, which is kept alive in the corner of one’s heart till death. Face brightens whenever the thought of that meeting passes through one’s mind, at any age.
Dilip and Madhura, two innocent young hearts, indulged in their own worlds, happens to meet and fall in love. They face very gruelling situations, some ghastly obstacles but in the end how they triumph over all that is the one line of the story.
‘Pahili Bhet‘ is the new Marathi movie which is hitting cinemas all over Maharashtra on 19th sept’14. As the name suggests, the movie deals with loving memories of first meeting. Produced under the banner of Megh Sai Production ‘Pahili Bhet‘ is presented by Meghendra Jaiswal. Producer Dilip Dayaram Gangwani says that this movie has been made with high production values and is so crisp that it certainly can compete with any ‘Bollywood’ movie. The movie is not only a love story but its an entertainer with a social message, having loads of emotions, action, comedy, drama. It is said to be having great and melodious music composed by Sanjayraj Gaurinandan which is rendered by leading Marathi singers, lyricist being Rajesh Bamugade. Story screenplay is by Himani Kamble and cinematography is by Nana Khedkar.
‘Pahili Bhet’ boasts of invigorating performances by the entire cast which includes Manasi Naik, who illuminates the screen with her captivating presence, veteran actor Arun Nalavade, Yatin Karyekar, Savita Prabhune, Milind Shinde, Sashikant Kerkar and Dilip Kumar. Confident about the skills of moviemaking of thr director duo, completely new genre of role offered and battery of talented co-stars compelled seasoned artist like Arun Nalavade to do this movie. ‘Pahili Bhet‘ is a love story with a difference.
Four Marathi films release together
Friday 12th September was perhaps considered as most auspicious for four Marathi film makers. Also, the biggest festival of Maharashtra coming to an end, the Marathi film producers also thought that it was the right time for them to release their films. So, four films, with different subjects, made their entry today at theatres all over Maharashtra. Prominent among them was ‘Guru Pournima‘ which promised ‘A lovable story’. With the pairing of Upendra Limaye and Sai Tamhankar together, the film has already become the topic of discussion among Marathi film lovers. Nowthat, they have come to know about the double role played by Sai Tamhankar, the film has raised expectations.
Looking at ‘Gulabi‘ another Marathi film, released this Friday; it is expected that this film will be clearly a conflict between duty and beauty. But, having come to know that it is inspired from V. Shantaram’s 1971 film ‘Pinjara‘, it remains to be seen, how the film is accepted by today’s audience? Only Sachin Khedekar cannot pull the crowds. So, hope that Pakhi has also done well in this film.
Not much is known about Anand Mhasvekar’s film ‘Aamhi Bolto Marathi‘, except for its tagline that it is a inner voice of those who are proud about their mother tongue. Two veteran actors Vikram Gokhale and Arun Nalawade are opposite each other, fighting for their rights. So, it remains to be seen, who wins the battle? Or is it amicable settlement , for peaceful living ?
The fourth film released during the week is ‘Gondan‘. Vinita Pimpalkhare’s debut film as a director, after serving Marathi stage and television as a writer-director. It’s a musical love story set on the backdrop of traditional lavani , which has been part of Marathi film industry for a long time. Pooja Pawar is making her comeback as an actress through this film; but this time she is playing the mother of Pooja Sawant.
Now, which film gets the nod from the audience, will be clear only during the week end. Let us wait and watch.
