Now, a biopic on Shahid Shirish Kumar
We are all fortunate to live in Independent India because of the sacrifice of thousands of freedom fighters who fought in India’s freedom movement . Many young freedom fighters laid down their lives while fighting against the inhuman attitude of British soldiers. When Mahatma Gandhi opened his freedom movement ‘Bharat Chhodo’ thousands of Indians young and old became part of this movement. One of them was 15 year old youngster Shirish Kumar Mehta from Nandurbar district in Maharashtra.
On 9th September 1942 when Shahid Shirish Kumar along with his friends were on a morning round uttering ‘Vande Mataram’ to show their solidarity . They were stopped by the police and when they continued to shout their slogan, Police opened fire on them killing Shirishkumar and his four friends Dhansukhlal , Ghanashyam, Shashidhar and Laldas. Even while breathing his last Shirish kumar held the Indian flag firmly in his hands, which speaks about his commitment to his fight against injustice.
This Marathi film ‘Shahid Shirish kumar’ which is a biopic on young freedom fighter Shirishkumar, is produced by Madhuri Wadalkar and directed by Bhavesh Patil from Nandurbar. The official announcement of this film was made in Nandurbar by director Bhavesh Patil. According to him, official permission to make this film on Shirishkumar has been obtained from Shirishkumar’s sister Anuradha Thakore and her husband Umesh Thakore, who have agreed to give all the support.
