All of us in this beautiful world are possessive about a particular thing. And suddenly, after disappearance of that thing, we are disheartened. It is at this particular time, we need someone to console us to recover from this stage; so that we rediscover ourselves to live rest of our life happily. Known for systematic presentation of his subject, film maker Prakash Kunte has released his latest Marathi film ‘Cycle‘, which is based on this philosophy.
Actually, ‘Cycle’ presents a frivolous subject, which makes you rediscover yourself, while watching this 100 minute length film. Set on the backdrop of picturesque Konkan during late 50s, the film narrates the story of Keshav( Hrishikesh Joshi) and his possessive attitude towards his bicycle, which is an antique piece. Keshav has acquired this cycle as a gift from his grandfather, who had received this as a parting gift from a British Officer, after India became Independent from British rule.
Keshav takes very good care of this cycle which is unique in its appearance with its original yellow colour. He is so possessive about this cycle that he does not even allow anyone to ride on it. One day, unexpectedly when the entire family is away at a village temple to watch a mythology based drama performed by local artistes, two thieves Gaja ( Priyadarshan Jadhav) and Mangya ( Bhalchandra Kadam) who enter this village, looking for their next adventure, break open the lock of Keshav’s house and steal the ornaments, precious idols of God and flee on his cycle parked in the compound, after they notice the dogs barking at them.
While dejected Keshav who is a renowned Palmist ,wonders if he would ever find his cycle, the two thieves are on the run, moving from one village to another. On the way, wherever they take halt, they meet people who recognize Keshav’s cycle. But, the thieves who are well versed in this profession, keep posing that they are Keshav’s cousins and are using his cycle for their business purpose. At one stage, they realise the importance of Keshav as a person and his helping nature and decide to leave his cycle at one place from where, they decide to find escape route through a boat. All is well at the end, with Keshav also recovering to understand himself.
Director Prakash Kunte has cleverly narrated this simple story which seems to be inspired by the world cinema and especially the style of Majid Majidi’s Iranian films. But, there are few flaws in the film, which are noticed in the screenplay. Except for the two thieves, he has paid more attention on the costumes of all the other characters, to give a realistic look of 50s era. The only song in ‘Cycle‘ film and that too played in the background and composed by Rohan Rohan is very apt to the situation, but the background score by Aditya Bedekar is more appealing for every situation. Manoj Machemadkar’s sound recording is also good. Locations selected are too good and so is the wonderful photography by Amalendu Chaudhary. Performances by lead artistes is also another plus point of this film. Good support comes from other artistes like Manoj Kolhatkar, Dipti Lele & Maithili Patwardhan as family members of Keshav, while Abhijit Chavan, Vidyadhar Joshi, Sandesh Kulkarni, Pradeep Velankar are also impressive through their limited roles.
‘Cycle‘ will surely invite the attention at various international festivals; but for others it will offer a light entertainment.
Viacom18 Motion Pictures announce their next Marathi film ‘Cycle’
Hrishikesh Joshi, Priyadarshan Jadhav and Bhalchandra Kadam together can make a very good team . Perhaps, keeping this in mind, director Prakash Kunte has brought them together, in his next Marathi film ‘Cycle‘. Incidentally, this is the next Marathi film to be presented by Viacom18 Motion Pictures, who have just released their much talked about Marathi film ‘Aapla Manus‘.
‘Cycle‘ is produced by Happy Mind Entertainment in association with MFA & Think Why Not, takes you back in the post-Independence era of India, to a small village in picturesque Konkan. This so called light-hearted film presents a unique story, where the protagonist ‘Keshav’ has an intense love affair with his Cycle. The film is penned by Aditi Moghe, who hqas written films like ‘Coffee Aani Barach Kahi‘ and ‘Hampi‘.

‘Hampi’ shows the natural remedy for depression
Movie: Hampi
Rating: ★★★1/2 Genres: Romantic travelogue Censor: U Duration: 130 min. Studio / Presenter: Amol Joshi Productions, Swaroop Recreation & Media Pvt. Ltd Producer(s): Yogesh Bhalerao Director: Prakash Kunte Cast: Sonalee Kulkarni, Lalit Prabhakar, Prajakta Mali, Priyadarshan Jadhav, Chhaya Kadam Movie Review by: Ulhas Shirke |
Two years ago the writer and director combo of Aditi Moghe and Prakash Kunte through their film ‘Coffee Aani Barach Kahi‘ offered a very sensible story of a young working IT woman, who takes her own time to choose her life partner. Now, both of them have returned with another Marathi film ‘Hampi‘ to show, how the environment and people around help a young girl discover herself, after visiting a beautiful tourist place ‘Hampi‘.
The film presents Isha( Sonalee Kulkarni ) who is undergoing depression, due to the divorce taking place between her parents, after 28 years of their marriage. So, she visits a place called Hampi in Karnataka, in search of happiness. On her arrival, she first interacts with an auto rickshaw driver R.Ranjit ( Priyadarshan Jadhav ), followed by a Young bachelor in the neighborhood of her hotel room, Kabir ( Lalit Prabhakar ) who after his break up, has fallen in love with this place and the people around. Kabir tries to come closer to Isha, by understanding her problem and suggesting her to change her attitude towards life. Isha also comes across two more people, Ashabai ( Chhaya Kadam ) who sells handicraft items and a Sadhu, who also understand the reason behind her loneliness.
Though Isha doesn’t respond to Kabir’s approach, she starts liking him, after the arrival of her friend Girija ( Prajakta Mali ) who comes all the way from Delhi, to join her for few days. Fun loving Girija openly admires Kabir. But, being her good friend, she wants Isha to choose Kabir as her life partner. One evening, we find a sudden twist in this film. What happens in the climax is anybody’s guess.
But, the film does leave an impact, with the superb handling of the screenplay. ‘Hampi‘ has many plus points. The characters penned by the writer, are developed very well by director Prakash Kunte, paying full attention on their point of view and more importantly their thinking process, which have been shown through their communication process with well written dialogues by Aditi Moghe the writer of this film. Be it, the communication between Kabir & Isha, Isha and Girija, Isha & R.Ranjit, Isha & Ashabai, Isha & Sadhu, they have turned out to be very natural , generating humor at almost every important sequence.
The cinematography of this film is another plus point with Amlendu Choudhari making all efforts to capture the picturesque beauty of this place in all those outdoor scenes. He gives glimpse of his creativity in the very first frame of the film, giving you a hint that this place called Hampi can be counted as one of the lively characters in the film. He finds good support from Poorva Pandit’s art work and Sayali Soman’s dress designs. Film’s background music is also very effective at every situation . Above all, the performances of all the artistes are impressive. Sonali and Lalit display a good chemistry between them. Prajakta Mali finds her entry in this film at the stroke of interval, but she does extremely well to invite the audience attention with her bubbly character for almost next half an hour. This role will surely help her to find better roles in Marathi films. Good support comes from other artistes.
All in all, though ‘Hampi‘ is targeted at youngsters , showing the natural remedy for depression, it also offers good entertainment with its good presentation. You get the feeling that you are on a sight seeing for 95 minutes,to this beautiful place called Hampi .

‘& Jara hatke’ trailer promises fresh subject
Produced by creative film maker Ravi Jadhav and presented by Eros Entertainment, forthcoming Marathi film ‘& Jara hatke‘ had already generated a lot of curiosity about the subject of this film, among Marathi film lovers. Yesterday afternoon, when the trailer of this film was released, in presence of entire star cast and media persons, certain things became very clear and one of them was that it promises a fresh subject, penned by Mitali Joshi and directed by Prakash Kunte, who had earlier given us a hit film like ‘Coffee Aani Barach Kahi‘.
Before the release of film’s trailer and a song, the young pair of this film Siddharth Menon and Shivani Rangole, introduced themselves, with the names of their respective characters. They then called upon the lead senior pair of this film Indraneil Sengupta & Mrunal Kulkarni, who are playing their respective single parents in the film. In the film the single parents meet each other after a gap of 20 years and their closeness turns into love. They want to live together and hence ask their children for permission to do so. Both the children, who are teenagers also meet each other and the film’s story takes a different turn, which we will come to know, only after watching ‘& Jara hatke‘ film. But, the selection of artistes, seemed to be most appropriate. Now, it remains to be seen, how this fresh subject would appeal to the Marathi film audience.
Suhas Joshi, Sonali Anand, Spruha Joshi & Sandesh Kulkarni are the other important artistes in this film. Music by Aditya Bedekar & lyrics by Mahesh Kangane are other credits of the film. The film is all set to release on 22nd July 2016.

Shivani Rangole – The rising star of Marathi films
She is beautiful , she is smart and she is highly talented. Shivani Rangole possesses all the qualities, to be a lead actress of Marathi films. Shivani is playing one of those six collegians, part of the lead team members in Sujay Dahake’s forthcoming science fiction ‘Phuntroo‘. In the recent past, we have seen Shivani playing Vaibhav Mangle‘s young daughter, in the TV serial ‘Shejari Shejari Pakke Shejari’. Then, we saw her playing a young girl living in the neighborhood of Mukta Barve, in hit Marathi film ‘Double Seat‘.
We met Shivani during the trailer launch of her film ‘Phuntroo’, when she invited all the attention, even in presence of Ketaki Mategaonkar, who is the leading actress of this film. Shivani was anchoring this promotional event, along with her co star in the film Shivraj Waichal. Incidentally, Shivani has been part of many Marathi plays in Pune, like ‘Anathema’ and ‘Jhulta Pool’. Her entry into ‘Phuntroo’ was finalized by filmmaker Sujay Dahake, after watching her performance in the play ‘Jhulta Pool’, written by Satish Pulekar.
Born and brought up in Pune, Shivani completed her graduation in Arts, from Fergusson College , Pune . She is just 21 year old and is just passionate about acting. The day is not far, when she will be counted among the top actresses in Marathi film industry. Are you surprised with this statement ? If yes, then watch the first look of Ravi Jadhav’s forthcoming film ‘&.. Jara Hat Ke’ directed by Prakash Kunte. Watch the freshness in her face, her spontaneous expressions and above all, her smile. In this film, Shivani is playing lead role of a young girl, opposite Siddharth Menon. The film also stars Mrunal Kulkarni and Indraneil Sengupta, who is making his debut in Marathi, through this film.
During our conversation with Shivani, we saw promise in her eyes. She just needed that big break in Marathi films and she has found it in ‘& Jara Hatke‘. But, in the meanwhile, she has a very prominent role to play in ‘Phuntroo’, which is all set to release next month. Few years ago, Shivani was part of Sudarshan Rangmanch, where she received training under the guidance of renowned theatre personality Pradeep Vaidya and others. Having performed at inter collegiate drama competitions, she just needed that guidance, to move ahead in her acting career. And, for the past two years, we have seen that desired change, in her. Wishing this talented actress all the best.
