Late Sadashiv Dattaray Amrapurkar was well known for his performances in Marathi and Hindi films. He completed his Masters in History from Pune University.  He started acting from school days.

Having performed in about 200+ Hindi and Marathi films since 80s till last year, Mr. Amrapurkar was basically a stage actor. Mr. Govind Nihlani, gave him his first major break, as Rama Shetty a villain; through his film ‘Ardha Satya’. He was highly impressed by the actor’s performance in a Marathi play. Mr. Amrapurkar bagged the Filmfare award for negative role portrayed by him in this film. He also went on to bag another filmfare award for his performance in Mahesh Bhatt’s film ‘Sadak’.
Mr. Amrapurkar was last seen in Marathi film, ‘Hou De Jarasa Ushir’, which also sent its entry privately for Oscars. In this film, he had played an important role of a central character.

Sadashiv Amrapurkar Memorial Trust to help needy film makers

As an actor, Sadashiv Amrapurkar had created his own identity in Hindi and Marathi film industry. As a citizen of this country, he never forgot his social commitments to the society. No wonder, after his sad demise, his family members formed a Trust Sadashiv Amrapurkar Memorial Trust to help the young filmmakers from rural parts. It may be recalled that the legendary actor himself had come from the rural area to establish himself in the tinsel town of Mumbai. And, on his own, he established himself as an actor par excellence.

Now, his daughter and filmmaker Reema Amnrapurkar who is managing the trust in her father’s name, has started a project with the name of ‘Saadhan’ to provide the scholarship in the form of supply of equipment to genuine filmmakers, who are unable to hire the equipments for filmmaking. The Trust will select the projects from such film makers and after going through the subject, will come forward to help such projects by way of part or full scholarship. For the past three years, the trust has been conducting workshops on filmmaking in schools and colleges in rural areas of Ahmednagar district. Hon. Minister Mr. Vinod Tawde has also shown his support for the work undertaken by Sadashiv Amrapurkar Memorial Trust.

Somebody has rightly said, “If you want to brighten the place you live in, be a source of light.” Over the years, Marathi cinema offered so many talented stars, who were almost like source of light. They past on the light to the next generation of artistes. Today many of them may not be alive, but they have left memories of their fine performances in hearts of film lovers.

Fakt Marathi TV channel, which has been offering some good films from time to time, will now be paying tributes to those artistes who had created their own identity, through their memorable performances during the past two –three decades, but are no more existing in this world. So, to pay tributes to these departed stars namely Sadashiv Amrapurkar, Kuldeep Pawar, Vinay Apte, Reema Lagoo, Satish Tare & Ashwini Ekbote

Through their programme titled Smrutichitre’s Fakta Marathi will be offering films of these stars for a week starting from 23rd December onwards.   Fakt Marathi Business head Shyam Kelkar made this announcement , stating that during the week , those films will be shown at 7 pm daily.

On the occasion of 1st death anniversary of late Sadashiv Amrapurkar, his family members and well wishers have come forward to launch a foundation in his memory, which will be called ‘Sadashiv Amrapurkar Foundation’. Dr. Anand Nadkarni, who was present on the occasion, said that it was a perfect tribute to the actor , who always found time, for his social commitments.

Reema Amrapurkar, daughter of late Sadashiv Amrapurkar has also said that the purpose of forming this foundation is to create a platform for the talent from rural areas . Mr. Rajabhau Amrapurkar will be the chief trustee of this foundation, while the other members of the trust are Sunanda Amrapurkar and Dr. Anil Avachat.

Sadashiv Amrapurkar Actor PictureWell known Bollywood and Marathi film actor Sadashiv Amrapurkar passed away early morning today, due to heart failure. He was 64 . Mr. Amrapurkar was being treated at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani hospital at Andheri, for lung ailment for the past several days. Few days ago. There were rumors flowing on social net working sites; but his family sources confirmed that his condition was stable but not out of danger.

Actor Sadashiv Amrapurkar assaulted during Holi

Sadashiv AmrapurkarHe went to make an appeal to stop wastage of water used as showers during Holi celebrations at the neighbouring society at Versova, Mumbai; but, was assaulted by the participants, who also abused him. It may be recalled that the Government of Maharashtra and Mumbai Police had appealed to the people of Mumbai, to celebrate dry Holi this year, instead of wasting the precious water, in view of the ongoing drought situation the state. This incident marred the spirit of Holi in the city.

Some of the citizens responded very well, including some office bearers of the societies and clubs; who preferred to have celebrations with dry colours. Even the Governor of Maharashtra and Mr. Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar had appealed to Mumbai people not to use water during this year’s Holi. In fact, artistes from the Marathi Film industry were in the forefront to spread the campaign Dry Holi and set the precedent by playing this year’s Holi with Dry colours at their community celebrations at Jogeshwari.

ABP Majha Channel, which had taken the initiative for spreading this message, requested many artistes from Marathi entertainment industry to spread this message through their channel. This appeal did receive a very good response at places like Dadar, Girgaon, Parel, Thane, Mulund, Goregaon and Borivali. Even some of the societies in posh areas like Khar, Bandra,Juhu and Powai, who have formed ALM’s in their areas came forward to observe Dry Holi. But, some of the societies in areas like kandivali and Versova seemed to have ignored this appeal made in public interest. Marathi Movie World, strongly condemns this attack on the senior actor.
