‘Ghantaa’ offers a casual adult comedy

Studio/presenter: Brahmapura Pictures, Dashami Studioz, Yellow Inc Producer(s): Shailesh Shankar Kale, Rohit Shetty Director: Shailesh Shankar Kale Music: Samir Saptiskar Cinematographer (DOP): Siddharth More Cast: Amey Wagh, Saksham Kulkarni, Aroh Welankar, Pushkar Shrotri, Anuja Sathe Movie Review by: Ulhas Shirke |
Till now, we have seen many Hindi films on betting in cricket and how some youngsters are lured to this biggest gambling racket, which is spreading across the country. Latest released Marathi film ‘Ghantaa‘ is also based on this subject with three youngsters Umesh Vaidya( Saksham Kulkarni), Raj Bhosale( Amey Wagh) and Angad Mohite( Aroh Velankar) getting trapped into this racket oraganised by Chintya ( Kishore Kadam) a local criminal.
The film begins with a wrist watch containing mini diamonds delivered through courier to a local criminal turned politician Dighya Bhai( Pushkar Shrotri) .This parcel is delivered by default to a company owned by Sanjay Hegde ( Murli Sharma) a former suspended Police officer involved in encounters with criminals. Angad whose girlfriend Anagha( Shivani Surve) works for Sanjay Hegde’s company , visits this company with his two friends, to convince her over their break up. But, three of them encounter eccentric Sanjay Hegde. Dighyabhai’s men attack Sanjay Hegde to get their diamonds back, but Sanjay is injured, while Dighyabhai’s people are also killed in cross firing by the former sharp shooter.
Amey steals Sanjay’s watch, to get some money, but when the watch breaks, when Angad snatches it, while asking him to return and the tiny diamonds spill over. Amey takes them to his girl friend Komal Bhabhi( Anuja Sathe) , with whom he sleeps, while her Diamond merchant husband is away. She in turn calls an expert known to her, to valuates the diamonds @Rs. 10 lakh each. To sell the diamonds, he calls Dighyabhai, who sends his deputy for the deal. And, the youngsters are once again in trouble. The film concludes with not so impressive climax.
With so many characters, with some more played by renowned artistes like Viju Khote, Kanchan Pagare, Kishore Chougule, Abhijit Chavan, Arun kadam, late Razzak Khan and few others , the film has a big crowd, with almost no scope given to good artistes like Viju Khote, Abhijit Chavan and late Razzak Khan . The first half of the film is not at all impressive and fails to pick up, till the interval. In the post interval stage, there are few interesting moments, but they are all inspired by some Bollywood films. Some vulgar double meaning dialogues have been used to generate humour; but the film fails to take a firm grip on screenplay. The director has tried some animated and special effects even in one song picturised on three lead artistes, so as to be different from others, but that’s not enough to present a good package. Music is also just average.
The three lead artistes Amey, Saksham and Aroh have played their respective roles convincingly. Anuja has played a bold character for a change. Pushkar Shrotri is very much at ease playing a typical politician with criminal background, but Murli Sharma is more impressive. He seemsto have improvised his Marathi with his fluent and confident looking dialogue delivery. Some good comedy comes from a TV Marathi artiste playing the Gujarathi character, who is assistant of Pushkar Shrotri. Surprisingly, his name does not appear in the credit list provided by the makers of this film.
All in all, ‘Ghantaa‘ has turned out to be neither a family entertainer, nor a sensible film to fit into quality Marathi film. All that it offers is a casual adult comedy .
Pushkar Shrotri presents Team ‘Ghantaa’ in a humorous way
Known for his humorous way of entertaining the audience, as an anchor Pushkar Shrotri is a popular choice at many events of Marathi entertainment. On Wednesday evening, he played that role, while introducing the lead artistes of forthcoming Marathi film ‘Ghantaa‘ produced by Nitin Vaidya, Ninad Vaidya, Shailesh Kale & Rohit Shetty and directed by Shailesh Kale. The three lead artistes of the film who were targeted on this occasion were Amey Wagh, Saksham Kulkarni & Aroh Velankar. They were later joined by leading lady of the film Anuja Sathe Gokhale.
During this function, those special invitees who toasted the three lead artistes were Mahesh Manjrekar, Amruta Khanvilkar, Amruta Subhash, Jitendra Joshi and Pushkar Shrotri himself. By the way, Pushkar himself is also part of of this film, among other character artistes like Viju Khote, Vijay Kadam, Murli Sharma and others. From the trailer of this film, which was released on this occasion, it was very clear that the film was targeted at youngsters . The film ‘Ghantaa‘ has already started its promotion on social networking sites, with all the three youngsters receiving very good response from audience interaction. Now, it remains to be seen, how they respond to this film, when it is released in theatres on 14th October 2016

‘Shikshanachya Aaichha Gho’ takes on the taxing educational system
Rating: na
Presenter: Eros International, Satya Ashwami Films, Everest Entertainments Producer: Sanjay Chhabria, Ashwami Manjrekar, Satya Manjrekar Director: Mahesh Manjrekar Story: Mahesh Manjrekar Screenplay: Ravi Jadhav Lyrics:Guru Thakur,Shrirang Godbole, Nalesh Patil Music: Ajit, Atul, Samir Cast: Sachin Khedekar, Bharat Jadhav, Saksham Kulkarni, Gauri Vaidya, Siddharth Jadhav, Kranti Redkar, Vidyadhar Joshi, Vaibhav Mangle, Kamlakar Satpute, Kishore Pradhan, Sandeep Pathak Movie Review by: Ulhas Shirke |
Till now, our experts in education department and the Government representatives have ignored the most sensitive issue of rising suicides among children. No one has really bothered to find the exact cause and a solution. But, as they say, media has lot to do. Film making is a very creative filed and if a particular issue is presented properly, it can certainly invite the attention of one and all. A change in our educational system is a long time demand and director Mahesh Manjrekar decided to take on this issue seriously through his latest film ‘Shikshanachya Aaichha Gho’( SAG) .
He did face the opposition before release of his film, for using a konkani slang in the title; but managed the opposition diplomatically. Finally, ‘SAG’ saw the opening day at theatres all over Maharashtra with houseful shows even in multiplexes. A simple story of a teenager from a middle class family ( Saksham Kulkarni) , who is good at cricket but is an average student in his studies. The father ( Bharat Jadhav) who is working in Municipality office, wants his son to do well in his studies too. He does not approve his progress in cricket, as he feels that the game will only come in the way of his studies. One day, he scolds his son for non performance in exams and breaks his bat. He beats up his son and in a scuffle, pushes him away, when the child hits his head against the bed and bleeds turning nconscious. He is rushed to hospital and is operated upon, but does not recover as he moves into coma.
The father repents, but his friends and well wishers in the neighborhood including his daughter(Gauri Vaidya) extend both financial and moral support during this period of crisis. He brings his son back home under the advice of hospital doctor and offers all treatment at home. Finally, one of his friends who is working in a hospital, arranges an operation of his son by a US returned doctor(Mahesh Manjrekar) . The son recovers and the father wins his battle against the education system, with the chief minister giving him assurance to look into this issue. Now, to present this issue, director Mahesh Manjrekar has displayed a good cinematic presentation through touching scenes and hard hitting dialogues to make the audience think seriously about the change
required and instigating the parents to oppose such a system. At the same time, he has tried to convince the parents not to expect too much from their children and encourage them more in the areas of their interest. Very cleverly he has used certain locations to create the desired impact through his 1hour 48 mins long film.
In this film, you will find Bharat Jadhav in a different role. Though there are few scenes to bring in humour, especially in the company of a shop keeper cum money lender Ibrahim( Siddharth Jadhav) and his kind hearted neighborhood friends comprising of Kishore Pradhan and others. The character of Nalini (Kranti Redkar) having soft corner to this family, has been cleverly used to complete the requirement of female lead; as the hero is shown as a widower. And, she has played her part well.
Both the children Saksham and Gauri are proper choice in the film doing their respective roles. The director’s favourite -Sachin Khedekar makes his appearance as the chief minister in that climax scene. Overall presentation of the film is good, with not much scope for music, but clever editing work keeps the audience engaged with the screenplay. The sincere effort of the film maker is to be lauded for taking on this taxing educational system through this film.
The imporatnt changes in our education system at school level the film suggests are:
1) Allowing students with their choice of subjects.
2) Vocational guidance a must at seondary level. &
3) To do away with rank system.
