After achieving success through her first Marathi production ‘Mission Champion’, Film maker Veena Lokur from Belgaum has now offered one more sensible film ‘Platform'; which speaks about the Girl child abuse in India. Veena Lokur, who also makes her debut as a director through this film, has gone beyond the subject of Female foeticide to show the reality in our society, where girl child is still considered as a burden by the parents; especially in the weaker section of the society.
Through this film, Veena Lokur has launched her daughter Sai, who plays an important central role of Shivani Deshmukh, from a well to do family. Shivani, who is a final year college student, is about to find a campus recruitment and is returning home after attending a workshop; when she witness a horrifying act of parents, who just drop their two daughters into her compartment and run away, as the train leaves a platform after the halt.
Shivani (Sai Lokur) who takes the lead to hand over the girls to the Police, when she reaches her destination. But, she is deserted by all her friends. It is only her best friend Aditya (Astaad kale), who supports her and the two little girls ( aged 4 and 5 yrs) are taken to the Police station. But, at the Police station they experience the reality about the law, besides the child abuse. However, Aditya’s father (Sharad Ponkshe) being a lawyer, suggests them a way out. It looks like all roads are closed for Sai , as the parents of the missing girls cannot be traced. Shivani takes up the custoday of the two girls, much against the wish of her parents (Mohan Joshi and Veena Lokur).
When, Aditya also notices Shivani going out of the way to help the girls and getting emotionally involved in them, he too loses interest in her and leaves for US to take up a job.
He however, keeps in touch with Shivani over phone like a good friend. Shivani separates from her parents and adopts the girls. She takes good care of them, by offering good education for next 11 years. When the girls attain teenage, a particular incident in their life takes them to their past. Shivani has to reveal the true happenning. This is almost towards the climax of the film, when director Veena Lokur concludes her story with an appropriate end.
The film has a strong subject to convey, but to show the actual happening on the platform, her screenplay takes its own time. It is only little before interval, the film actually takes the momentum. To fill up the gaps in the first session, the director has taken help of music, with the inclusion of two songs. Lyricist Ashwini Shende’s fine wordings have received the composition from talented music director Nilesh Moharir.
Cinematographer Suresh Deshmane’s wonderful work is clearly visible, especially in the outdoors. His execution with different camera angles has made the job of director much easier. Being a debutant, Veena Lokur has done her best.
Newcomer Sai Lokur, who also makes her debut as an actress, looks more confident and appealing. She has performed the role of a protagonist with sincerity. Astaad kale, who also plays the leading man for the first time, is at ease and perfectly fits into that role of Aditya. Mohan Joshi and Sharad Ponkshe in the role of parents have nothing much to offer, but they have played their respective roles well. Veena Lokur is just fine in the role of sai’s mother in the film and so are the other characters of the film. The two child artistes and the grown up girls have performed their parts well. The film has already won the State Government award as one of the best films this year. But, to be eligible for international awards, it requires editing, especially in the three songs, except one background and few unwanted scenes in the first session. However, ‘Platform’ does succeed in passing a social message at the most appropriate time. This being a sincere effort from the lady film maker, it is to be appreciated.

Biggest award is ‘appreciation from audience’ – Sharad Ponkshe
He is always in a Jovial mood and very supportive on the sets; whether he is shooting for a film or a serial. Sharad Ponkshe who began his acting career as a stage artiste with one act plays while he was studying in Abhinav Kala Mandir school in Bhayender off Mumbai , was very serious about this profession. But, those days acting was not seen as a well paying profession. One needed a job to support self and family. So, like many others, after finishing his 12th followed by a three year specialized Government diploma, he took up a job with BEST. As an employee of BEST, he participated in various competitions and did his first professional play ‘Varun Sagle Sarkhe’ in the year 1989.
For a totally committed actor like Sharad, it was just not possible to stick on to only stage and hence in 1988 he made his debut in a Marathi film ‘De Taali’ while he was a little known actor. He got his first major break in a TV serial through Adhikari Brothers ‘Damini’ in 1997, where he played a Journalist- Uday Karkhanis. This serial was a super hit and went on for 8 years with a record run. It was during this period that Sharad Ponkshe received another big offer to play lead in a Marathi play ‘Mee Nahturam Godse Boltoy’. The launching of this play turned out to be the most memorable moment in his life, as it literally changed his life. He still remembers the date of launch i.e 10th July 1998.
Sharad, who was then used to be on leave without pay in his office, finally decided to quit his job in the year 2000. The journey of a successful actor had begun with the popularity of ‘Nathuram Godse Boltoy’. Sharad was later signed to play the role of a Journalist again; this time a shrewd and cunning Mr. Khandagale in another popular serial ‘Vaadalwaat’.
So effective was his performance as Devram Khandagle, that for three consecutive years he bagged the Zee Puraskar for the best villain, while playing the same role. Isn’t that a biggest hat-trick scored by an actor? It’s surprising that the same actor with another outstanding performance in ‘Mee Nathuram Godse Boltoy’ is yet to receive an award.

Marathi films are known for their comedy content but very few films can be really called total entertainers filled with comedy. However, Cat –N-Mouse Entertainment’s ‘Kon Aahe Re Tikade’ is a zany comedy which can be termed as one in the category of good entertainment.
The story of the film revolves around Shirke family, who still live in the kingly eras of the Maratha history. The chief of the family- Jhunjharrao Shirke (Dr.Mohan Agashe) is one such ‘historical’ monument who is fighting with the authorities and his step brother Balasaheb(Sharad Ponkshe) to regain control of ‘Veergad fort’ which he considers as his family possession. Jhunjararao has already spent a fortune on lawyers and his ancestral property is dwindling and so is their royal lavish lifestyle with only one servant- Kumar (Bharat Ganeshpure) who is paid by the Shirkes with pieces of their land and other princely objects like the royal sword, in return of his services.
Jhunjararao has one son- Malhahrrao(Subodh Bhave), who is an artiste(a painter) and is a happy go lucky person. But, his father has vowed not to arrange his marriage until he gets ‘Veergad’ back.
But, Fate intervenes and Malhararo falls in love with Devaki (Hemangi Kavi) at a marriage ceremony of her brother. They promptly get into bed before marriage and within a month Devaki declares that she is pregnant. What follows thereafter is a roller-coaster of amusement with every character in the film misunderstanding the other. The real pregnant person, however remaining a mystery, which finally turns into a ‘comedy of errors’
Devaki’s father(Mohan Joshi), their maid Savita (Smita Tambe), her politician brother Udayrao (Mangesh Desai) and his wife (Suhas Paranjape) are all part of this drama and most of the comedy part is situation based with funny dialogues .
The film is ably directed by Tanaji Ghadge and is well scripted by Arvind Jagtap. The performances are good from all, with Dr.Mohan Agashe putting in a stellar performance as Jhunjarrao Shirke. The shy but flexible Malharrao Shirke has been portrayed in his own style by Subodh Bhave. Hemangi Kavi looks simple but good and acts well. Mangesh Desai, Mohan Joshi, Smita Tambe,Sharad Ponkshe, Bharat Ganeshpure , Suhas Paranjape, support well. Shubhangi Gokhale as Mrs.Shirke is impressive. Arun Kadam as a watchman and Vijay Patwardan as a doctor, are hilarious cameos.
The title song is sung well by Hrishikesh Kamerkar and composed well by Chinar-Mahesh. The cinematography by Surendra Singh is brightly lit with the interiors of the ‘wada’ and the ‘fort’ captured well. The editing by Rupesh Patole succeeds in the film, to get that required momentum for the film. In all, this film is a good entertainer.

Achanak to terrorize audience on December 5
Terror has touched and troubled the sentiments of Indian people. Terrorism, today, has become a global concern. The continuous bomb blasts in the major cities inspired writer-director Yogesh Soman, to take up this bold issue as the focus of movie.
Suryodaya Films International’s ‘Achanak’ brings the real picture of terror to the audience. The movie is unique in its subject and is going to be different in its aspects of production, songs, music and screenplay. The music is given by Mandar Khare, who has maintained the thrill and gravity of such a serious subject. The songs by singer- musician Saumitra and Valay Mulgunde are sung by Sadhana Sargam, Sunithi Chavan, Suresh Wadkar and Shankar Mahadevan. The highlight of the movie is a song sung by Mahadevan which portrays the intensity of terrorism.
To make the movie a success, Sangramsinh Appasaheb Nalawade whose has ventured for the first time in production has made many efforts. He has been backed by writer-director Yogesh Soman, a strong cast and an extensive use of technology. Yogesh has made his mark in the industry through theatre, one-act plays and serials on national television. ‘Achanak’ is his first attempt at direction. He has also taken the responsibility of its story. “Everybody is living in fear and there is an atmosphere of insecurity everywhere. We decide to present the face of terror to the people through commercial cinema,” says Soman. The cast includes Mohan Joshi, Reema, Sharad Ponkshe, Swapnil Rajshekhar, Digvijay Sawant, Amita Apte.
The movie keeps in touch with reality and is nowhere closer to the fantasy world.’ Achanak’ team has been bold to move away from the genres of comedy and family drama and try out a bold subject as terror.
‘Achanak’ will be premiered at the Parliament House in the presence of the president Prathibha Patil. It will be the first such Marathi movie to be screened at the Parliament house.
The movie will release on December 5 not only all over Maharashtra but also in Karnataka, Goa and MP. This is the first ever Marathi movie to be released over more than 10-15 places at the same time.
