‘Dhurala’ shows how Power game can split the family

   Dhurala Movie PosterDhurala Movie Poster

In the past there have been many films on power games played by Politicians when it was for gaining or retaining power. Films like ‘Samana’, ‘Sinhasan’, ‘Sarkarnama’, ‘Zenda’, ‘Aajcha Diwas Majha’ and few others have presented different subjects on the backdrop of this power game in politics. Now, latest released film written by Kshitij Patwardhan and Directed by Sameer Vidwans shows how the power game can split the family of a popular Village Sarpanch Nivrrutti Anna Ubhe, after his sad demise.

Set on the backdrop of a Village-Ambegaon in rural Maharashtra, the film has shown how the selfish people including MLA of the district try to prevent the eldest son Navnath ( Ankush Chaudhari) from contesting the election to carry forward the family tradition. But, he finds the clever game played by MLA( Sabnis) to declare the constituency reserved for women and suggesting the name of his step mother (Alka Kubal) by supporting her for his own political gains. If this is not enough, his otherwise ambitious sister in law Monica (Sonalee) is also convinced to contest by their family’s rival Gadhve( Prasad Oak) . Navnath has no other option but to request his obedient wife Harshada ( Sai Tamhankar) to jump into the fray , making it a triangular contest within the family.

So, the real fight which begins, is witnessed only in the second half of this about 169 minutes long film, when all the interesting happenings take place one after the other. A lot of time has thus been wasted in the first half to show how the outsiders get involved with their dirty political games to split the family. What is remarkable to see, is the strong bonding in spite of the split noticed through some of the emotion filled scenes. There are few twists and turns in the film, including the climax, but what appeals the most are the dialogues exchanged between them by the important characters at different situations.

Veteran actress Alka Kubal is at her best . Ankush Choudhari displays his commitment to social work through his powerful character. Sai Tamhankar does very well , especially when she presents ‘Bharud’ during her election campaign. Sonalee has played the ambitious woman taking it as a challenge. Siddharth does well in his role of a lazy and happy go lucky husband, while Amey Wagh gets his share to show his skills through his ‘not so easy’ character. In the role of family’s opponents Prasad Oak dos well, while Umesh Kamat has very little to his share.

There is no scope for music in this film, but the clever cinematography captures the perfect village atmosphere and close up expressions of every important character very well. Full marks to all the artistes for their wonderful performances and to director Sameer for handling all those important scenes with the help of writer Khsitij .  All in all, it is good political based timely film, but should have been shortened lengthwise, especially in the first half.

Alka Kubal to offer ‘Darshan’ on Colors channel

Alka Kubal Actress
Alka Kubal, Colors Marathi, Darshan Serial

Known for her devotion based roles in woman oriented films, Alka Kubal still has a big fan following. Now, she will be presenting a programme’ ‘Darshan’ on Colors channel. It is an interesting programme, based on Gods and Godesses  and will take the viewers on a journey of various temples, to  explain their importance to the devotees.

Even otherwise, the serials based on Gods have been receiving good response. The best examples are serials like ‘Jai Malhar’ on Zee Marathi channel, which was completed 500 episodes and ‘Ganapati Bappa Morya’ on Colors channel. However, in ‘Ganapti Bappa Morya’ Serial  the artiste  playing the character of Parvati, needs to improvise on her dialogue delivery. She speaks with the same tone in different situations.

Zee Marathi channel will start a new serial ‘Ratris Khel Chale’ from 22nd February 2016. But, it will be telecast at 10.30 pm, as per their advertisement flashing during their programmes; which means, that it will take the time slot of ‘Dil Dosti & Duniyadari’. Does that mean,  ‘Dil Dosti Duniyadari’ will be taking another suitable time slot or is it going to end ? But, recently Zee Marathi and team Dil Dosti Duniyadari presented ‘3D Rock Concert Mumbai’ at Dombivali Gymkhana. Moreover, the serial has been receiving good response, from the home viewers of all age groups. And therefore, it would not be proper to say Goodbye to it.

By the way, there is a good demand for the new serial ‘Tamanna’ presented by Ajinkya Deo on Star Plus channel. Well Known Marathi artiste, Anija Sathe ( ‘Lagori’ serial fame) is playing the lead role in this serial and she has already grabbed the attention of television lovers from Maharashtra, as her huge posters are prominently displayed in all cities of Maharashtra. This serial has begun its telecast from last Monday at 10 PM. Therefore, the viewership of the important programmes on Marathi channels, is likely to get affected, if ‘Tamanna’ attains popularity, in days to come.

‘Majhi Shala’ – a stimulating film with a social message

Majhi Shala
Rating: ★★★ ½
Studio: Passion World
Producers: Kiran Deshpande, Ashish Deshpande, Mohan Damle, Sanjeev Langarkande
Director:Shantanu Anant
Music:Sachin – Deepak
Cinematography: Vinayak Jadhav
Cast: Arun Nalawad, Alka Kubal, Aaksah Waghmode, Jayant Savarkar, Devendra Dodke, Deepjyoti, Ashok Pawade, Baban Joshi, Sanchit Yadav & Poornima Vawhal
Movie Review by: Ulhas Shirke

Swami Vivekanand once said, “Take up one idea. Make that one idea your life – think of it, dream of it, live on that idea. Let the brain, muscles, nerves, every part of your body, be full of that idea, and just leave every other idea alone. This is the way to success.” Based on this philosophy, new Marathi film ‘Majhi Shala’ has been set on the backdrop of a small village in Khed, Ratnagiri. Ram, a 10 year old son of a farmer in a village, is passionate about taking education and walks miles to take lessons from a village teacher, who teaches poor children from surrounding villages.

When Ram completes his education, he starts educating children from his own small village. Even after his marriage, his wish is to start a full fledged school in the village. Ram spends from his own pocket to promote education in village and attract children to his school. He makes all his efforts, with the help of his wife Savitri, who does laborious jobs; to meet the family expenses. They offer good education to their own son with the hope that he would also join the mission to spread importance of education in the village. However, the son, watching the financial condition of his parents, prefers to take up a job of a teacher in Mumbai. The desire to escape normal life and do something different for the society, keeps Ram’s mind, body and spirit totally involved, to accomplish his mission in life.

It is Ram’s strong wish that keeps him going; and finally we see his dream come true. But, an unfortunate incidence takes place little before interval. However, that does not deter the strong wish of Ram. The film sends a strong message to the society, emphasizing the importance of education in rural parts of India. We have been hearing of Government schemes; but, is the education reaching to the grass root level ? This is what the film has tried to voice through its script. It also throws light on corruption at Panchayat level, raising its ugly head, due to illiteracy in villages.

The film looks like a documentary at the initial stage; but, little before interval writer- director Shantanu Anant Tambe brings a twist into the screenplay, challenging the science and medical field; besides the administration. At the stroke of interval, you get the feeling that the film is over; as the director’s name appears on the screen, instead of the word ‘interval’. But, soon you realise that the dream of the school teacher is yet to be fulfilled. The post interval session is unpredictable, which goes in believing the unbelievable things; only to see the happy end.
Arun Nalawade Alka Kubal

This low budget Marathi film is well presented. But, showing Arun Nalawade and Alka Kubal as newly wed couple in the flashback looks little odd. That is the only drawback of the film. The director could have opted for a young couple instead; as there were not many scenes . There is no doubt about their performances; as both Arun Nalawade and Alka Kubal Athlye have given their best like versatile artistes, through all their emotion filled scenes. In the role of Ram during his childhood, child actor Akash Waghmode has performed well. In the supporting cast, there are equally good performances coming from Jayant Sawarkar, Ashok Pawde, Deepjyoti, Baban Joshi, Sanchit Yadav, Purnima Vaval

Some of the dialogues in the film are hard hitting at neglect of education in rural areas by the Government. MLA of the area is shown more keen on investing in a beer bar in Mumbai, rather than offering financial help to his village school. This is evident from some of the other scenes shown in the film. Background music by Sachin Deepak is well suited to the screenplay. Sound effects are used well with the village backdrop. Cinematography by Vinayak Jadhav has captured the night scenes very well. The director has shown his commitment to the presentation of his own subject. And the artistes have responded well through their notable performances. ‘Majhi Shala’ has thus turned out to be a stimulating film, with a social message.

Kedar Promotes ‘Iraada Pakka’ in his own style

Iraada PakkaMarathi Cinema is also moving in a professional manner, as far as the film’s promotion is concerned. Right from ‘Mi Shivajiraje Bhosale Boltoy we found this difference, when the powada based song was used in the film’s promotion. Now, film maker Kedar Shinde has used a new approach for promotion of his film ‘Irradaa Pakka’, staring Sonali Kulkarni and Siddharth Jadhav.

Recently, he picturised a song for the film’s promotion, where he had involved about 20 popular artistes along with their spouses. This experiment is first of its kind in Marathi cinema. “The film lovers will be happy to see their favourite artistes with their real life partners together in this song,” feels Kedar. When this song was picturised for two days, Kedar and his wife paid personal attention on all these special invitees, to see that they were comfortable for that event.

Some of the artistes who took part in this special promotional song were veteran Atmaram Bhende, Kishore Pradhan, Ramdas Padhye, Alka Kubal, Bharat Jadhav,Sandeep Kulkarni, Ashok Shinde, Ankush Choudhary, Sumeet Raghavan, Prasad Oak, Vijay Patkar & Shreyas Talpade. The film will be due for release soon .
