After going through these first look trailers of programmes and films it is felt that this new Marathi channel promises full 2 entertainment for all age groups. The artistes in the serials are combination of newcomers and versatile artistes. With suitably designed tagline ‘Vinuya Atut Naati’ this channel has announced telecast of popular Marathi films like ‘Duniyadari’, ‘Shentimental’, ‘Baghtos Kaay Mujara kar’, ‘Muramba’, ‘One Way Ticket’ and so on in days to come. At the same time, the glimpse of their serials like ‘Julta Julta Jultay Ki’, ‘Sare Tujhyach Sathi’ are expected to offer entertainment with a difference.

The channel will also offer lots of entertaining programmes on dance and music with new talent, which is welcome.

Alka Kubal to offer ‘Darshan’ on Colors channel

Known for her devotion based roles in woman oriented films, Alka Kubal still has a big fan following. Now, she will be presenting a programme’ ‘Darshan’ on Colors channel. It is an interesting programme, based on Gods and Godesses  and will take the viewers on a journey of various temples, to  explain their importance to the devotees.

Even otherwise, the serials based on Gods have been receiving good response. The best examples are serials like ‘Jai Malhar’ on Zee Marathi channel, which was completed 500 episodes and ‘Ganapati Bappa Morya’ on Colors channel. However, in ‘Ganapti Bappa Morya’ Serial  the artiste  playing the character of Parvati, needs to improvise on her dialogue delivery. She speaks with the same tone in different situations.

Zee Marathi channel will start a new serial ‘Ratris Khel Chale’ from 22nd February 2016. But, it will be telecast at 10.30 pm, as per their advertisement flashing during their programmes; which means, that it will take the time slot of ‘Dil Dosti & Duniyadari’. Does that mean,  ‘Dil Dosti Duniyadari’ will be taking another suitable time slot or is it going to end ? But, recently Zee Marathi and team Dil Dosti Duniyadari presented ‘3D Rock Concert Mumbai’ at Dombivali Gymkhana. Moreover, the serial has been receiving good response, from the home viewers of all age groups. And therefore, it would not be proper to say Goodbye to it.

By the way, there is a good demand for the new serial ‘Tamanna’ presented by Ajinkya Deo on Star Plus channel. Well Known Marathi artiste, Anija Sathe ( ‘Lagori’ serial fame) is playing the lead role in this serial and she has already grabbed the attention of television lovers from Maharashtra, as her huge posters are prominently displayed in all cities of Maharashtra. This serial has begun its telecast from last Monday at 10 PM. Therefore, the viewership of the important programmes on Marathi channels, is likely to get affected, if ‘Tamanna’ attains popularity, in days to come.

‘Image of Woman in Marathi TV Serial’ discussed

Rohini Hattangadi, Ambarish Mishra, Soumitra Pote

‘Image of Woman in Marathi TV Serial’ was the subject of discussion at Asiatic Society, Mumbai as a part of ‘Jagatik Marathi Din’ which is to be celebrated on 27th February. The panel of discussion consisted of Marathi film producer-director Viraaj Raje, Writer Ambarish Mishra, Aruna Joglekar, Marathi Film Critic Soumitra Pote and actress Rohini Hattangadi. After a brief introduction, Ambarish Mishra ,channelled the discussion by stating that TV serials do decide the cultural standards of the society.
Aruna Joglekar, who is a dialogue writer of many popular Marathi serials, stressed that the daily soap scenario is not dominated by creative people, but people with money bags. She stated, “An Advertisement company approaches a channel to make a serial, with a particular region in mind, because their surveys show that there’s huge untapped market available there. The interference is so much that I had to dilute my dialogues in ‘Zoka’ due to pressure from marketing team.”
Rohini Hattangadi was honest in admitting that image of woman in serials, is totally controlled by non-creative people. “The channels should at least make one thought-provoking serial, even if the TRPs are low, after making 3-4 successful serials,” she suggested. Soumitra Pote was of the opinion that in today’s daily soaps, woman characters are utterly unrealistic and there’s no value addition for young audience. Viraaj Raje stated “I have given up being creative head of TV serials, due to unnecessary, unwanted & unwarranted interference of marketing teams. “TRPs are supreme, but strangely and surprisingly the sample strength to measure TRPs is only 60 to 70 thousand,” he stated factually.
Ambarish Mishra concluded the discussion, hoping that the channels would project the women on TV, more realistically and the audience should exercise their right to switch off the TV for the programmes they don’t like, so that the channels are forced to cater to their demands.
