It’s high time that we have common TV serial awards in Marathi
Till now, we find that only a particular channel hosts TV serial awards, restricted to serials aired on its channel. But, why can’t we have such awards open to Marathi serials, aired on other channels too ? If this happens, it will be a good competition to watch. When we can have awards instituted by different Groups and sponsors for Marathi films and Marathi stage, why there is injustice to Marathi serials, which has been offering talented artistes ? Few years ago, an event management company, which hosts TV serial awards in Hindi, had come forward with the proposal of hosting awards for Marathi serials too; but, that proposal remained on papers only, for want of sponsors.
Now days, we observe that popular TV artistes are in big demand for Marathi film and stage award functions held abroad, for performing dances or for anchoring shows. So, why can’t these Organisers also include awards for Marathi TV serial artistes and their makers? If these awards are added to the existing awards, they will help increase the popularity of these awards.
If such awards are introduced, it will create good completion among different channels and their producers, to offer their best creation. It will also be interesting to see Mrunal Dusanis competing with Dipti Ketkar , Suruchi Adarkar and Santosh Juvekar competing with Suyash Tilak and so on. Today, we find many TV serial makers, taking the viewers for granted. In many serials, we find the popular characters repeating the same dialogues again and again, with the same expressions on their face. To make a serial interesting, it is very necessary to have good communication among the characters, with quality and effective dialogues. There was a time, when we noticed good dialogues in past serials like ‘Damini’, ‘Vadalvaat’’, ‘Avantika’, ‘Agnihotra’, ‘Ya Sukhanno Ya’ & ‘Asambhav’. Why can’t we have such quality dialogues in the present day serials ?
To offer a good Marathi serial, there has to be a complete script ready, with dialogues. A popular TV serial director once said that he preferred to make a serial, which would be over within six months. But, today, we find many serials dragging on for more than a year. Sometimes, two years or even three years, with some of the artistes and even the director being replaced. And, that’s not fair.

Bhau kadam & company also presented their fun filled skit. Varad Chavan is new addition to ‘Runji’
After completing 300 episodes, TV serial ‘Runji‘ on Star Pravah channel, seems to be going for a change. Now, the makers of this serial have found Varad Chavan to play an important role. And, this tall talented youngster, known for some of his negative roles in the past, has made his presence felt, on his entry into this otherwise lifeless serial. No wonder, they have also shot a Dandiya dance sequence on Bollywood actress Aliya Bhatt , on the occasion of Navaratri festival. Aliya has performed along with two actresses in the serial. And, this episode will be telecast soon. Needless to mention that it must be promotion for Aliya’s next film.
Even otherwise, Colors channel is trying to make it big, through their forthcoming Bharat Jadhav reality show, which is being advertised heavily. This show will go on air soon, during prime time. Bharat being a big name in Marathi entertainment industry, the show is likely to pose competition to programmes on other channels. By the way, on Colors Marathi channel, we saw a film of Makarand Anaspure ‘Asa Mee Tasa Mee’, which had a 70s traditional Hindi film style story. The other artistes of this film were Rahul Mehendale, Shweta Mehendale & Shruti Marathe in a negative role. Surprisingly, Shruti’s voice didn’t seem to be her own voice. Was it dubbed by anyone else?
Last week, Maiboli channel presented some good Marathi films . They were, Ajinkya Deo’s ‘Jetaa‘, Subodh Bhave’s ‘Ranbhool‘ . There was also a good Marathi drama ‘Hasat Khelat’ starring Ashok Saraf, Nivedita, Puushkar Shrotri, & Smita Tambe, shown on 14th October.

Zee Marathi Nomination party bears a colorful look
Every year Zee Marathi channel hosts a party for all their serial makers and artistes, to make an announcement of their Zee Marathi television nominations & forthcoming award function. Almost all the makers of the serials, their directors, artistes were present with colorful dresses, at it was the theme for the party. And, they all remained together in their respective groups. While ‘Dil Dosti Duniyadari’ artistes and their captain Sanjay Jadhav occupied front seats, others remained scattered, wherever they found place. But, it was not difficult for Anchor Dr. Nilesh Sable to spot them, for random selection for the close interaction.
The team of ‘Chala Hava Yeu Dya’ joined him to generate humor, through fun filled interaction. Those who were grilled with questions, were Tejashree Pradhan, Sanjay Jadhav, Shreya Bugade Seth, Mandar Deosthali , Mayuri Wagh, Ashok Shinde ,Chinmay Udgirkar and others. Over all, it was a good entertainment, with a variety offered by Sagar karande, in the role of a Postman. Some fish ponds were also read out and the main targets were Vaibhav Mangle & Tejashree Pradhan.
Bhau kadam dressed up in traditional Maharashtrian Nine yard Saree welcomed all the invitees, along with Ka Re Durava pair Suyash Tilak & Suruchi Adarkar. Though ‘Dil Dosti Duniyadari’ team tried to make their presence felt, with their young team; it was ‘Jai Malhar’ team, which invited all the attention, as most of them were in mod outfits and hence photographers were more keen on clicking them. Producer Mahesh Kothare was all smiles, as he posed with his team. ‘Majhe Pati Soubhagyavati’ team was minus Vaibhav Mangale, but Nanda Soukhyabhare’ team was with full attendance. ‘Honaar Suun Mi Hya Gharchi’ team was also minus Rohini Hattangadi and Janhavi’s father. Team ‘Nanda Saukhyabhare’ was also present and so was the team of ‘Julun Yeti Reshimgathi’, though the serial has come to an end.
The team members of ‘Asmita’ were seated in the back row, but their morale was raised, when Mayuri Wagh was called upon for interaction on the dais. Their entire team comprising of director Sangeet Kulkarni, Mayuri Wagh, Kavya mane, Yogesh Sohani, Vikas Patil, Deepak Naidu, Shaila kanekar, Mr.Purkar & Piyush Ranade were more than happy to pose for photos with their well wishers , after the function. Mayuri seemed to be the favourite of many youngsters, as she was specially dressed up for the occasion, with a new hair style.
Others prominent personalities present on the occasion were Ramesh Bhatkar, Sachin Pilgaonkar, Adinath Kothare, Urmila Kothare and officials of Zee Marathi and Esselvision.
Talented Dnyanada Panse finds scope in ‘Asmita’
Many a times we find new talented stage artistes performing in a story, extending up to three to four episodes, in detective serial ‘Asmita’ on Zee Marathi. Some of them are just passable; while few of them, really leave an impact on the home viewers, with their memorable performances. Those, who are really talented, for them, even an episode is enough to get noticed. One such actress is Dnyanada Panse. This young brilliant actress has already won the hearts of Marathi theatre lovers, through her wonderful performance in the ongoing popular Marathi play ‘Tya Tighanchi Goshta’, which has completed 100 shows, within a year.
In the latest episodes of ‘Asmita’, Dnyanada is playing a character of a newly married young woman, who wants Asmita to detect, as to why her father in law behaves strangely with her, in absence of her husband, who is away on a job assignment. With her father in law also making a similar allegation against his daughter in law, ; the case has turned interesting. But, this is only because of the superb performance of Dnyanada, which has brought the case to an interesting stage. We are sure that Dnyanada would find a suitable role in any forthcoming serial, as this performance will surely get her noticed, as a talented actress.
In ‘Ka Re Durava’ on the same channel, we find Jai slowly opening out, to make his point clear, in front of his father in law; but, the dialogues uttered by his father in law, are in the same style and with the same words, used by him, several times in the past. Even at home and office, we find the same conversation repeated again and again. If you notice their expressions, there is no change observed in close up shots. And, this is very monotonous. Why can’t they have new situations created? Simply finding one new character, will not help, to generate interest in this serial.
In ‘Asa Saasar Surekh Bai’ on Colors channel, so far Mrunal Dusanis invited all the attention, with her spontaneity in acting; but, for the past few episodes, Santosh Juvekar has made his presence felt, through some important scenes; be it convincing his Uncle or encouraging his cousin to do what she is happy with. Is it because, his film ‘Biker’s Adda’, is all set for release ?
One doesn’t really know, whether the contest ‘Daba Bot Milva Note’ on Zee talkies channel has attained popularity? But, the hosts have claimed that they have received overwhelming response, with 40 lakhs phone calls, from participants, from 21st September, the date of beginning of this contest. The contest is open till 18th October 2015. So, those interested, can try their luck, to win prizes.
Now, Bharat Jadhav to anchor new comedy TV show
It looks like that there is nothing much left for actor Bharat Jadhav in Marathi films. Either the Marathi film makers are ignoring him, or he is not finding suitable roles in Marathi films. Now, we hear that he will be anchoring a Comedy TV show ‘Aali Lahar Kela kahar’ on Colors Marathi TV channel. His favourite director friend Kedar Shinde, will be directing this show, which is all set to go on air.
It may be recalled that after doing lot of theatre in Marathi, Bharat Jadhav had turned one of the top actors in Marathi from the period 2000 to 2012. But, for the past 3 years, his popularity had declined, with the emergence of new young actors in Marathi. Moreover, during the past three years, Marathi cinema had also seen a shift from comedy to realistic films on social issues. Two years ago, we also saw Bharat performing in a comedy serial on television. So, it is not surprising to see him back on television. After all, an actor gains maximum popularity through TV shows, which are seen by maximum Maharashtrian households. Let’s hope that Bharat offers, something really entertaining under the direction of Kedar Shinde.
Audience eagerly waiting for Vaibhav’s make over
After a lot of publicity, finally, Vaibhav Mangale’s TV serial ‘Majhe Pati Soubhagyavati’ has arrived on Zee Marathi channel. The versatile actor, in the company of Nandita Dhuri, playing his wife, has already displayed his skills, as a struggling actor, in the initial episodes. There were some interesting happenings covered so far, to show his frustration clearly. Even, the shooting episode and his interaction with his father in law played by Uday Sabnis , were well presented. But, audience is more eager to see his make over as a female actor.
In ‘Nanda Saoukhyabhare’, on the same channel, Swanandi is still facing the err of her adamant sister, in spite of her engagement to Indraneel. The serial is yet to pick up, as it is moving in a typical Saas bahu style, with the character of Vachhi Maushi, playing her games, to take revenge against Indraneel’s mother. Some of the dialogues in this serial are just repeated again and again.
Runji on Star Pravah, certainly needs a revamp, as there is nothing interesting left in this serial. Same is the case with ‘Kamla’ on Colors channel, as behavior of Dev is not at all acceptable. One could understand his orthodox thinking mother’s attitude; but behavior of Dev in not at all convincing. Don’t really know, what the author of this serial has in mind.
However, in another serial ‘Asa Sasar Surekh Bai’ on Colors channel the greedy uncle of Yash has come to know, the background of Jui, after reading her palm. So, now we expect him to support Yash, after some melodrama expected from lady members of the family. But, on the other side, Gautam Joglekar, who has started playing elderly person’s role, perfectly suits as Jui’s father, offering variety through his performance.
Till now, we have been watching Asmita, desperately in search of her father’s killer, in the serial ‘Asmita’. Now, she has almost come close to proving the involvement of her own father in law. But, will that happen ? Let us wait and see.
‘Honar Suun Mi Hya Gharchi’ creates awareness about environment protection
After watching the Ganapati and Gauri Pooja performed by our artistes, in their respective serials, last week; now, we saw a good message passed by the makers of the serial ‘Honar Suun Mi Hya Gharchi’. While Janhavi’s father explained his illiterate and adamant wife, about preservation of environment, for getting good rains; Shree explained to his aunts, about the methods of water conservation. He seemed to be more critical about wastage of water, when it is freely available to people.
One way, it was a good lesson to learn, for those, who waste water, which is the most precious commodity, today. On one side, we find people from city wasting a lot of water , while taking shower or tub bath, on the other side, in villages facing drought, we see women walking miles and miles, to fetch water in a small container, lifted over their heads. TV serials being watched by almost all the Maharashtrian households, this is a very good way of passing a timely message. For the past few years, we saw the awareness created by many TV serials, about environment friendly Ganesha idols and it has really helped, to spread the awareness message. Now, why can’t some serials with good subjects, create awareness about corruption and greed for money, in day to day life of people and how it affects country’s economy?
In a serial like ‘Nanda Soukhyabhare’ we find the mother of the lead hero, just wanting to know, how much she will benefit financially, through her ‘would be’ daughter in law. In ‘Asa Saasar Surekh bai’, we find the uncle of the lead hero, encouraging his nephew to marry a rich girl, so that he would be able to spend money, on his own daughter’s marriage. Isn’t that something strange? Why can’t he himself work hard and raise funds on his own, to meet the expenses of his daughter? Such money minded selfish attitudes of some of the prominent characters in the serials, are sending a wrong message. They keep on dragging the gimmicks of such negative characters, till the concluding part of the serial.
It is not necessary that every serial should have one strong negative character , dominating the ongoing story. It only encourages those viewers, who try to emulate them. Instead, it is better to have a total comedy subject or a detective or police investigative serial, where the people involved in all such harassment or criminal acts, are put behind the bars, in just 2 or three episodes. TV serials play a very important role in passing a social message. “As you sow, so shall you reap.”

Marathi TV serials getting ready to welcome Ganapati Bappa
Come Ganapati festival and we witness almost all Marathi TV serials worshipping the idol of Ganapati Bappa. In ‘Assa Saasar Surekh Bai’ on Colors Marathi, we have already seen decorations going on in Yash and Jui’s office, to welcome Ganapati Bappa. We also saw Jui helping Yash to make the idol of Ganapati from clay. But, we don’t know, whether it is environment friendly idol. That is yet to be announced.
Traditionally, we find most of the serials, creating awareness about environment friendly idols. On the same channel in ‘Kamla’, it will be interesting to see, who will perform the Ganapati Puja. Sharu or kamla, if at all, there is Ganapati Puja in their house? And, what will Shubhra do in ‘Majhe Mann Tujhe Jhale’? At present, she is busy teaching a lesson to the actress, equipping herself with perfect choreography. But, we will surely see the Aarti being held either at Jai- Aditi’s office or at their so called kaka’s house.
In ‘Asmita’ on Zee Marathi channel, we saw, Asmita’s husband getting ready to bring home Ganpati idol. By the way, they already have a little guest in their house, whom they have treated as God’s messenger. Though Asmita is dressed up in Saree, to get ready for festive season, there is no holiday for her, as ‘Work is Worship’ in her case. By the way, she looks very nice in Sarees. On Star Pravah channel, we are likely to see Ganapati Puja in serials like ‘Runji’ and ‘Tumacha Aamcha Same Asata’. On the same channel, we are watching Dr.Amol Kolhe, visiting various Ganapati Mandals across Pune, to check their preparations. By the way, he is taking lot of interest in presenting this programme. He just loves anchoring.
In Zee Marathi laughter show, ‘Chala Hava Yeu Dya’, we saw something different this time. The concept was ‘Same to Same’, where we saw all those lookalike faces of well known actors, from Hindi and Marathi film industry. Some of them had a lot of resemblance, but we have seen them in so many Hindi programmes in the past. The programme should have given chance to newcomers, especially our own Marathi speaking artistes, like those three, who resembled Nana Patekar, Makarand Anaspure and Govinda and also one, who did mimicry of all big stars. Most of the participants could not speak Marathi. So, it was almost like a Hindi programme, losing its Marathi identity. And, that was the only disappointment,, as the programme concept was good.
