Veteran actor Jayant Savarkar passes away at 87

Well Known Marathi veteran actor Jayant Savarkar passed away today morning in a Thane hospital. He was 87. He is survived by his wife, two daughters and a son. Mr. Jayant Savarkar was recently awarded Life Time Achievement award at the Ambernath Marathi Film Festival. Earlier, he had also received the prestigious Natyavarya Prabhakar Panshikar Lifetime Achievement award from Government of Maharashtra.

He had performed in more than 100 plays and was known for his memorable roles Taliram in ‘Ekach Pyala’ and Antu Barva in ‘Vyakti aani Valli’. He was active with his television performances through serials like ‘Tumchi Mulgi Kaay Karte’ last year and the second part of this serial ‘Karan Gunhyala Mafi Nahi’ which is being aired now Sony Marathi. Only few days ago he was seen in this serial playing the role of a detective Chintu Nana an old man as Police informer. Jayant Savarkar had also performed in few Hindi films like ‘Vaastav’ ‘Yugpurush’ and ‘Singham’. His last rites will be performed on Tuesday morning.
