Shooting begins for film ‘Bhutiyapanti’ based on humour
Comedy has always been the favourite theme of Marathi film makers for the past several years. But, how to present a humour skilfully with the help of horror mixed story is a new challenge. Forthcoming Marathi film suggests something like this through its title ‘Bhutiyapanti’. The film was launched a few days back with muhurat and the shooting of it is in progress at Bhor. Recently, the title poster of this film was also released.
Produced by Three Star Entertainment and Vinod Bardade Productions, this film is directed by actor turned director Sancheet Yadav who has also made his debut through the film ‘Be Eke Be‘. Sancheet is also playing an important role in this film. The other lead artistes of this film are, Arun Nalawade, Kamalesh Sawant, Poornima Vavhal- Yadav, Amit Chavan, Trushant Pate, Sudesh Mhashilkar, Prabhakar More, Ankur Vadave, Abha Velankar, Sandeep Juvatkar, Manasi Sankpal, Amit Shinde, Sameer Kalambe & Sachin Khandagale.
With script and lyrics of ‘Bhutiyapanti’ film penned by Vinay Yerapaley, the music is composed by Abhinay Jagtap. Cinematography by Lavkesh Vishwakarma, art direction by Devendra Tawde and choreography by Santosh Ambre are the other credits.
Why films of top Marathi directors fail to draw crowds in theatres?
Every year we find at least three to four Marathi films drawing good crowds at the theatre windows. But, the year 2019 doesn’t seem to be lucky at least for top Marathi directors of big banner films. The best examples are films like ‘Bhai 1 and Bhai 2‘ directed by Mahesh Manjrekar, ‘Ashi Hi Aashiqui‘ directed by Sachin Pilgaonkar, ‘Luckee‘ directed by Sanjay Jadhav and recently released big banner film ‘Rampaat‘ directed by award-winning director Ravi Jadhav.
There was certainly nothing wrong with the subject of ‘Bhai 1 & 2‘ as it dealt with the most popular personality of Marathi literature and also Marathi film industry. Perhaps, the decision of making this film in two parts and releasing them one after the other within a gap of a month was not acceptable to the Marathi film lovers. Now, looking at reviews of these five films, none of these films received the likely positive response from the critics. If that was not enough, even the regular film lovers did not respond much as expected in the cinema halls. And, this was certainly bad news not only for these big banners but also for the Marathi film industry.
With almost 20 weeks passed during the current year 2019, we are still waiting for a super hit Marathi film from a new or reputed director. And, this certainly is a big worry for Marathi filmmakers.
‘स्माईल प्लीज’ चित्रपटात अभिनेत्री अदिती गोवित्रीकर डॉक्टर भूमिकेत
बॉलिवूड फिल्म इंडस्ट्री मध्ये आपली एक वेगळी ओळख निर्माण करणारी सुंदर अभिनेत्री म्हणजे अदिती गोवित्रीकर. २००९ मध्ये अदितीने संजय जाधव यांच्या ‘रिंगा रिंगा‘ या चित्रपटामधून मराठी सिनेसृष्टीत पदार्पण केले आणि आता लवकरच ती विक्रम फडणीस यांच्या ‘स्माईल प्लीज‘ या दुसऱ्या मराठी चित्रपटात झळकणार आहे.
विक्रम फडणीस आणि अदिती गोवित्रीकर यांची मैत्री खूपच जुनी आहे. आपल्या या मैत्रीबद्दल आणि ही भूमिका कशी मिळाली याबद्दल अदिती सांगते, ”सुरुवातीच्या काळात विक्रम नृत्य दिग्दर्शक होता आणि त्याचे शोज मी आवर्जून पाहायचे. तेव्हापासून आमची मैत्री आहे. ज्यावेळी त्याने ‘हृदयांतर‘ हा चित्रपट केला त्यावेळी मला मनापासून वाटायचे, की भविष्यात त्याच्या चित्रपटाचा भाग व्हावा आणि माझी ही इच्छा लवकरच पूर्ण झाली. त्याने मला त्याच्या ‘स्माईल प्लीज’ या चित्रपटासाठी विचारणा केली. चित्रपटातील आपल्या भूमिकेविषयी अदिती म्हणते, ”या चित्रपटाचे कथानकच मुख्य हिरो आहे. कथानक अतिशय सशक्त असल्याने हा चित्रपट नक्कीच उत्कृष्ट ठरेल. वैयक्तिक आयुष्यात मी डॉक्टर असल्याने पडद्यावरही डॉक्टरची भूमिका साकारण्याची संधी मला मिळाल्याने मी खूपच खुश आहे.’

Sandeep Kulkarni to play Mahatma Jyotiba Phule in ‘Satyashodhak’
Versatile Marathi actor Sandeep Kulkarni is back again to Marathi films. Sandeep Kulkarni will be playing the role of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule in forthcoming Marathi film ‘Satyashodhak‘, which will be released by end of this year. Opposite him in the lead role will be Rajashree Deshpande, whose web series ‘Sacred Games‘ was aired recently.
Produced by Samata productions and Kathakar Entertainment, the film is written and directed by Nilesh Jalamkar. Speaking about this film Sandeep Kulkarni said, “The thinking process of Phule couple was very much ahead of the time. Therefore, ‘Satyashodhak’ film will focus more on the relationship between this ideal husband and wife and their work for a social cause. 50% of the film’s shooting is over.”
Like Marathi plays old TV serials also need revival
In the recent past, we have seen many old Marathi plays being revived with new artistes. Sunil Barve‘s Herbarium group tried this experiment of the revival of old hit Marathi plays and they received a very good response, in spite of the higher ticket rates. This clearly indicated that ‘Old is Gold‘ And that too, at a time when new subjects were presented by new drama companies.
Today, when we look at the ongoing TV serials, it is observed that initially, they start well, but after about two months run, most of these serials are dragged with nonconvincing story and screenplay. Gone are the days, when we saw some gripping subjects presented by good writers and directors. Some hit serials of yesteryears were ‘Shwetambara‘, ‘Bandini‘, ‘Abhalmaya‘, ‘Avantika‘, ‘Vadalvaat‘ and so on. They certainly presented some good content to keep the audience of all age group engaged. Why can’t we revive these serials with new artistes. When people love to watch films based on happenings during the 80s and 90s, why not present that period now, for the new generation instead of showing them something nonsense. ?
Is there enough for children this vacation from Marathi Theatre?
Come summer vacation and find lots of morning shows of Children’s plays at places like Mumbai, Thane and Pune. And, this has been a good way to divert the attention of little children from the video games and television cartoon shows towards which they are more addicted today. So, let us find out whether there is enough for such children this vacation from Marathi Theatre? Taking a glimpse at the ongoing shows, we found that there were few interesting children’s plays going on at different places.
To top it all was Laxmi Narayan Productions ‘Jungle Book The Treasure’ which was staged at Balwant Phadke Auditorium, Panvel. This play has the attraction of presenting a 20 ft Dinassoure and 7 ft Gorilla to entertain the kids. It is the first Marathi children’s play to win National award. This play is written and directed by Preeti Dalvi Chorghe. Then, there are two shows of ‘Chandoba Chandoba Bhaglas Ka’ directed by Ketan Kshirsagar on Sunday and Monday @4.30 pm at Damodar Hall, Parel and Dinanath , Vile Parle respectively . But, is this enough to entertain the little children? We need many more Children’s plays during vacation time.

Milind Kavde gets ready to release his sex comedy ‘Takatak’ on June 28th
After releasing the poster of his forthcoming Marathi film ‘Takatak‘, director Milind Kavde has now released the bold trailer of ‘Takatak‘ to attract the youth audience. The trailer of this film clearly hints that it will be a naughty sex comedy involving young pairs of Prathamesh Parab – Ritika Shrotri and Abhijit Amkar – Pranali Bhalerao. There are other artistes like Bharat Ganeshpure, Pradeep Patwardhan and Ananda Karekar also in supporting roles.
After directing films like ‘Yedyanchi Jatra‘,’Just Gammat‘,’Shinma‘ and ‘1234‘ in the past, this is a comeback film of Director Milind Kavde. Besides directing this film Milind Kavde has also written the story and screenplay of this film along with Producer Ajay Thakur. Lyrics by Jai Atre and music by Varun Likhte. The film has been shot at picturesque locations in Mumbai, Thane and Goa by cinematographer Hazrath Shaikh ( Wali), while popular singers like Anand Shinde and Shruti Rane have rendered their voices for the songs in this film.
Based on true story ‘Bandishala’ to release on 21st June
Marathi films based on true stories have always invited the attention of film lovers. Sanjay Krishnaji Patil who won the President’s award for best screenplay in the film ‘Dashakriya‘, is back again as a writer and presenter with his film ‘Bandishala‘ which is directed by Milind Lele. But, what is more important is that renowned Marathi actress Mukta Barve is playing the bold central character of a Lady Prison Officer in this film, which is the highlight of this film.
Incidentally, ‘Bandishala‘ which is based on a strong social subject has been selected by Maharashtra Government for the Cannes Film Festival in France. The film has also been nominated in seven categories in the 56th Maharashtra State Film awards. Sanjay Krishnaji Patil, who has written the story, screenplay, dialogues, lyrics is also the presenter of this film, showing his total involvement in this film. Earlier, he was associated with two other award-winning films like ‘Jogwa‘ & ‘72 Miles‘ as a writer and presenter. Besides Mukta Barve, the film also stars Vikram Gaikwad, Sharad Ponkshe, Hemangi Kavi, Savita Prabhune, Asha Shelar, Pravin Tarde, Ashwini Giri, Ajay Purkar, Madhav Abhyankar and others.
Big ‘B’ to star in a Marathi film
For a long time, there has been a talk about Big ‘B’ Amitabh Bachchan thinking about performing seriously in a Marathi film. Now, we understand that he is certainly doing a Marathi film ‘AB & CD‘ which is to be directed by Milind Lele, who had earlier directed Marathi films like ‘Manya Sajjana‘ and ‘Kurukshetra‘. Most of the shooting of this film which will begin from 20th May will be done in Mumbai and Pune. In this film, Amitabh Bachchan has to do important scenes with Vikram Gokhale. The film also has two songs.
It may be recalled that 25 years ago Mr. Bachchan along with his wife Jaya Bachchan had taken part in the devotional song of Marathi film ‘Akka‘ produced by his make up man Deepak Sawant. Thereafter, in 2009 we saw his ABCL Company producing Marathi film ‘Vihir‘ which was directed by Umesh Vinayak Kulkarni. Recently, we also saw him shooting for Hindi film ‘Jhund‘, which is directed by ‘Sairat‘ fame Nagraj Manjule. But, performing an important role in Marathi and that too in the company of another versatile actor Vikram Gokhale, is a big news for Marathi film lovers.
