Human activities are limited by time and death. Their personal power is the ability to take action. But in many cases it prevents them from taking action? The reason for the same is obviously ‘fear’. Sometimes after attaining certain age, disability or ailments prevents many people from doing what they actually intend to do. But, when such people interact with others who are worst sufferers, they find the solution to live life more happily by helping others.
Latest released Marathi film ‘Prawaas’ produced by Om Chhangani and written- directed by Shashank Udapurkar is based on this simple philosophy. The story of this film revolves around a retired senior citizen who is suffering from Chronic Kidney disease and is dependent on dialysis twice a week. Like any such patient Abhijat Inamdar ( Ashok Saraf) is depressed and feels that he has become totally dependent on his wife Lata ( Padmini Kolhapure) who takes very good care of him. His treating doctor in the hospital (Vikram Gokhale) is also not happy with him, for not following his instructions . Abhijat and Lata’s only son ( Shashank Udapurkar) lives in USA but is constantly in touch with his parents over phone.
Time comes when Abhijat notices more underprivileged people living life full of hardships in spite of their sufferings. He decides to shift his focus from his own problems and does something worthwhile to make others happy. In the process, he finds his happiness. His wife who is initially against her husband’s plans, later supports him in his mission. The film presents a very sensible serious thought provoking subject, which is certainly inspiring. It delivers one important message – “What remains to be done is special, in journey of life”,
Writer- director Shashank Udapurkar has handled this emotion filled universal subject in an effective manner to connect with the audience from all age groups. He has himself played the role of son who lives far away from his parents and has performed reasonably well. But, as a director he finds very good response from the versatile lead pair of Ashok Saraf and Padmini Kolhapure who have played their respective characters with complete understanding. This is a lifetime role for Ashok Saraf and he has put in his heart and soul into it. This is one of his best roles so far. Good support also comes from Vikram Gokhale through his limited role of a doctor. Other artistes like Rajit Kapoor with Shreyas Talpade and Girish Pardeshi in special appearances also make their presence felt .
Certainly an inspiring worth watch film timely released in today’s materialistic world. Technically also it is well made film of 133 minutes length with suitable music from Salim Sulaiman ,excellent cinematography by Suresh Deshmane and expert editing by Sanjay Sankla. Therefore certainly stands chance of winning not only awards at National level but also at international level.
Padmini Kolhapure finds a suitable role in ‘Prawaas’ to display her hobby
Besides acting many artistes are also good at something else. But, they pursue it as their hobby. Some are good at sports, some are good singers , photographers and so on. However, not all of them get an opportunity to display their hobby through the roles they portray in films. Popular Bollywood and Marathi film actress Padmini Kolhapure is an exception. She has found a suitable role in forthcoming Marathi film ‘Prawaas’, which is due for release shortly.
Padmini is very good at painting and in this film she has found a lead role of a painting artist that too another versatile Marathi actor Ashok Saraf. When this role was offered to her by director Shashank Udapurkar, Padmini was in tears, after hearing the script. So much she was moved after hearing the story. More than that she was happy that she could do lot of paintings during the shooting schedule of this film.
The film also stars Vikram Gokhale, Rajit Kapoor & Shashank Udapurkar. The shooting of this film has taken place in America and Manali and the music has been scored by Bollywood music directors Salim Suleman, with lyrics by Guru Thakur.
