The reason for organising this special show for the jawans was to boost their confidence and to applaud their work and this was thoroughly enjoyed by them. Producers of the film informed that, not only this film is dedicated to the Mawla’s who lived and died for the ‘Swarajya’ (self rule) and today’s Indian soldiers; but also that 10% of its total revenue from the film will go towards the welfare of the soldiers. Fine gesture by Ashwini Bhave on the occasion of Women’s day
US based Marathi actress Ashwini Bhave visits her motherland every year around this time. Last year, to encourage protection of environment, she had gifted plants to 15 actresses in Mumbai. This year also she gifted plants to 10 male actors, so that they pass on the same to the most important woman in their life. Besides this, her visit to India this year turned more special for another reason. Ashwini Bhave visited a village Jambhulpada in Raigad district on the occasion of Women’s day and showed a fine gesture by gifting sewing machines to deserving poor women, so as to enable them to earn something for their needs.
Speaking about her visit, Ashwini said that she was in touch with an NGO ‘Sudhagad Hitvardhini Sabha’ working for the welfare of this village. “Since I was in Mumbai during the Women’s day, I though that I should spend some time with those poor women in village and that’s how the idea of gifting them with sewing machines came to my mind.” she added.

Samruddhi Porey offer new Marathi film
Marathi films are going worldwide because of the new universal subjects handled by some of the talented film makers in Marathi. Many corporate companies are also coming forward to present Marathi films, because of their unique stories. Now, the time has come to see the entire Marathi film being shot on foreign land. Saibaba Studios and Samruddhi Cineworld have combined together to present a new Marathi film ‘Sukh Mhanje Nakki Kaay Asta‘ which will be the first Marathi film to be entirely shot in Los Angeles.

Saibaba Studios have already offered quality artistic programmes on television and with this film, they will be stepping into Marathi film production, while Samruddhi Cineworld of film maker Samruddhi Porey has already offered award-winning Marathi films like ‘Mala Aai Vhaychay‘ and ‘Dr.Prakash Baba Amte‘ in the past. ‘Sukh Mhanje Nakki Kaay Asta‘ will be directed by Samruddhi Porey starring Ankush Chaudhari. Speaking about his debut in Marathi, Mr. Shivkumar of Saibaba Studios said that he has high respect for Marathi culture and therefore through a sensible subject of this film he decided to present this film.
‘Ti and Ti’ takes you on the tour of England
Bollywood film maker Yash Chopra always believed in shooting his romantic love triangle stories in Europe. Then we saw Karan Johar following his path. And now, the latest released Marathi film ‘Ti and Ti’ has also followed their path. Shot at some of the picturesque locations of London and its suburbs, the film presents the story of a newly married couple from Pune Anay Pandit ( Pushkar Jog) and Sai (Prarthana Behere Jawkar). It’s an arranged marriage for Anay, whose close friends Sudhan & Kavya register his name with a dot com marriage bureau. And they find a suitable match in Sai with 96% compatibility.

Soon thereafter, the couple is on their honeymoon to London. But, on landing in London, Anay meets his classmate Priyanka (Sonalee Kulkarni) on whom he had a crush during his schooldays. Having found his real love, Anay pretends that he is a bachelor and starts flirting with her. Having been left alone, Sai also finds a helpful friend in Shekhar (Siddharth Chandekar) a divorcee of Indian origin, who helps her to visit the places of her interest. The time comes, when both feel the guilt and they decide to live happily. But, as we have been watching in our films over the years, it is the man who always commits a mistake and the woman is made to suffer. No wonder, the film has been released on international women’s day. So, there is more drama to witness till the climax, which concludes with a happy end.
Though the story idea of the film has been influenced by the present lifestyle of the youngsters, it does have the touch of Bollywood, when it comes to repeated mocking and dialogues of Shahrukh Khan from lead character Anay. Though the screenplay in the first part has been presented well, it lacks the required momentum in the second half. Editing is not so impressive and so are the dialogues which also fail to make an impression. However it is the wonderful work by DOP Harshavardhan Patil which makes the film presentable. Watching this film, is almost like getting an experience of a package tour of London with the team ‘Ti and Ti‘. Music is just fine to suit the theme of the film. Costume designing is also good, if you observe the technical sides of the film.
As a director, Mrinal Kulkarni has tried her best to extract the best out of the four main characters and therefore full marks go to Pushkar Jog, Prarthana Behere & Siddharth Chandekar for giving their best. But, it is Sonalee Kulkarni, who grabs all the attention with her superb performance. All in all, this so-called RomCom follows the path of those Bollywood films and takes you on the tour of England
A lot is expected from Marathi Women film directors
After watching the success of Sai Paranjape in Hindi films and Marathi theatre right from 70s, many women in Maharashtra were inspired to move into direction. And the two prominent names were Aruna Raje and Sushma Shiromani. Aruna successfully shouldered the responsibility of directing the Hindi films like ‘Rihaee’ starring big stars like Hema Malini, Vinod Khanna, Naseeruddin Shah & Reema Lagoo and ‘Bhairavi‘, Sushma offered commercial Marathi films like ‘Fatakdi‘, ‘Bhingari‘ & ‘Kadaklakshmi‘. Recently, Aruna Raje made her comeback through a Marathi film ‘Firebrand‘ starring Sachin Khedekar, Usha Jadhav & Girish Kulkarni, which was released on Netflix last month.

Then we saw the rise of women film makers like Shrabani Deodhar through award-winning films like ‘Lapandaav‘ & ‘Sarkarnama‘ and Kanchan Adhikari through a sensible film like ‘Manini‘ which was the first Marathi film shot in Dubai. Kanchan had already become popular on television, when she directed a mega serial ‘Damini‘. Actress turned director late Smita Talwalkar also offered some good sensible films, besides directing her debut film ‘Savat Majhi Laadki‘.

During the past few years, some more women directors have entered Marathi film industry and prominent among them are, Samruddhi Porey, Swapna Waghmare Joshi, Mrinal Kulkarni, Kranti Redkar, Manva Naik & Pratima Joshi, who have offered good subjects with nice presentations and much more is expected from them. We had also heard about Mrunmayee Deshpande making an announcement about her entry into direction. On the occasion of Women’s day, we wish all these new women film makers all the best.
