‘Gandha Phoolancha Gela Sangoon’ – Biography of Late Uma Bhende released
Not even one year passed, since veteran Marathi actress Uma Bhende said good bye to this world. Since then, her husband and film maker 77 year old Prakash Bhende was feeling the vacuum in his life. But, for the past 10 months he spent his time writing a book about the couple’s life journey. And, the result was publication of 228 pages coffee table book titled ‘Gandh Phoolancha Gela Sangoon‘, a perfect tribute from husband to his wife on her birthday 31st May 2018.
This book was officially released on the occasion of Late Uma Bhende’s birthday at ravindra natya Mandir Mini Auditorium in presence of many dignitaries from Marathi film industry like, Ramesh Bhatkar, Mrinal Kulkarni, Jayshree T, Jayprakash Karnataki, Sushma Shiromani, Varsha Usgaonkar, Kanchan Adhikari, Hemangi Rao, Sanjeev Palance & Ashutosh Ghorpade. Many media persons, well wishers of Umatai and entire Bhende family were present on this occasion, when a short film on her film career and video messages from well wishers were shown.
Uma Bhende had acted in more than 50 Marathi films, besides doing Telugu and Chattisgarhi language films. In 1964 hit Hindi film ‘Dosti‘ she performed an important role, with a famous song ‘Gudiya hamse Rooth Rahogi...’also picturised on her. After marriage, she turned producer with the home banner ‘Shreeprasad productions‘ and offered opportunity to many newcomers.
Mr. Nitin Gadkari Hon. Minister of Road transport Central Government , who was close to Bhende family, through his elder sister was supposed to release this book, but could not make it due to urgent meeting with P.M. So, Mr.Prakash Bhende, released this book at the hands of his two little grandchildren, who were very close to Umatai. But, little before that he presented special painting made by him in just few minutes, to all the special celebrity invitees . Speaking on the occasion he turned emotional going down memory lane .. but recovering thereafter, he thanked one and all who stood behind him and his family during difficult times.
‘Gandha Phoolancha Gela Sangoon‘ is certainly a worth reading . It is like watching a film on the life of late Uma Bhende. Cost of the book is Rs. 300/- and is published by Anil Raghunath Phadke for Manorama Publications.
Marathi film ‘Ashtavakra’ premiere held in Kolhapur central Jail
‘Ashtavakra‘ is the first Marathi film which has been shot at the location of Kolhapur Central Jail. And therefore, before its official theatre release on 8th June 2018, the makers of this film and writer- director Pradeep Salunke had specially organised the premiere of this film recently in the Kolhapur Central Jail in presence of jail superintendent Sharad Shelke, Police Chief (Women’s Wing) and 63 Women prisoners.
Speaking about the story of this film writer- director Pradeep Salunke said, “I had read something about the women prisoners and their children. Picking up this theme, I worked hard to elaborate this issue for almost three years, to give a cinematic look to this story. Just imagine, if a pregnant woman is arrested and brought into the jail as a prisoner and she delivers during her jail sentence. The story of ‘Ashtavakra’ has emerged from such an incidence. To make this film more realistic I met these children, whose mothers were undergoing jail sentence and was really stunned. Also studied the jail manual and this helped me a lot during the making of this film.“
‘Duheri’ fame Sanket Pathak to make his debut in Marathi films through ‘Dostigiri’
Smart and handsome Sanket Pathak who attained name and fame through his lead performance in Marathi TV serial ‘Duheri‘ on Star Pravah, will be soon be making his debut on big screen through forthcoming Marathi film ‘Dostigiri‘ which is produced by Santosh Vasant pankar and directed by Vijay Shinde. The film will be released soon.
Speaking about his debut on big screen Sanket said, ” I received a lot of publicity because of my performance in TV serial and now my dream will come true with my debut through this film ‘Dostigiri‘. Through the serial home viewers witnessed my acting, but now through this feature film the audience will also watch me dancing and fighting on the big screen. Actually, I was so impressed with the story that I immediately agreed to accept this film. In this film, you will find Akshay Waghmare and Vijay Gite in the roles of my close friends.
Dr.Mohan Agashe releases ‘Cinema Diary’ in Pune
Dr.Mohan Agashe along with Padmakar Pathak from Satara, Satish Jakatdar, Shubha Ternikar, Abhiram Bhadkamkar & cine Journalist Dilip Thakur had assembled at the National Film Archives, Pune yesterday evening. And the occasion was the release of publication ‘Cinema Diary‘, a collection presented by Padmakar Pathak from Satara. After this ceremony, ‘Cinema Cinema‘ film was shown to the invitees.
This publication which contains 392 pages has detail information about the birth dates and other memorable days of artistes, producers, directors, lyricists, music directors from Hindi and Marathi film industry. Details about the censorship dates of the old films, rare photographs from the old films and other information on films is part of this diary. Those interested in knowing more about the film industry and those in publicity and marketing of films, will find this publication interesting.
लक्ष्मी सदैव मंगलम् मालिकेच्या सेटवर लक्ष्मी आणि बाब्याची धम्माल !

‘लक्ष्मी सदैव मंगलम्‘ मालिकेमधील बाब्या… बाब्या म्हणजे वेद आंब्रे. वेद ठाण्याला रहातो आणि सेटवर जमलेल्या गट्टीमुळे तो लक्ष्मी बरोबरच सेटवर येण जाणं करतो. अभ्यास देखील सेटवरच पार पडतो. पण सेटवरील सगळेच याला “चपडचपड” असे बोलावतात. कारण वेदची सेटवर प्रचंड बडबड सुरु असते आणि सगळी बडबड झाल्यानंतर त्याचे असे म्हणणे असते कि, “मी काही बोलतच नाही” अशा या मिश्कील आणि लाघवी स्वभावाच्या वेदने ‘लक्ष्मी सदैव मंगलम्‘ मालिकेच्या सेटवर सगळ्यांचेच मनं जिंकले आहे. लक्ष्मी आणि बाब्याचे पडद्यावर आणि पडद्यामागे खूपच छान जमते जे प्रेक्षकांना मालिकेमध्ये देखील दिसून येते. अजून एक गमतीशीर गोष्ट म्हणजेच मालिकेमध्ये त्याचा लुक खूपच साधा आहे त्यामुळे पडद्यामागे तो वेगवेगळे लुक्स स्वत:हूनच ट्राय करत असतो जसे स्पाईक्स करणे, चष्मे घालणे.
Surendra Pal to make his debut in Marathi through ‘Lagi Toh Chhagi’.
Having reached popularity heights with his role of Dronacharya in B.R.Chopra’s memorable TV serial ‘Mahabharat‘ 30 years ago, Surendra Pal did appear in other popular Hindi serials like ‘Chanakya‘,’Shaktiman‘, ‘Devon Ke Dev Mahadev‘, also performed variety of roles in Bollywood films. Now, he is all set to make his debut in Marathi, through Shivdarshan Sable’s forthcoming Marathi film ‘Lagi Toh Chhagi‘, which will be released all over Maharashtra on 8thJune 2018.
In this film which will be a Comedy Suspense thriller, Surendra Pal will be playing the role of a Pathaan . Speaking about this film, Surendra Pal was all praise for director Shivdarshan Sable . ” Story has always the USP of Marathi films. And this film has been set on the backdrop of the present situation and has a hard hitting subject,” he said. Besides Surendra Pal, the film stars Abhijit Satam, Nikita Giridhar, Ravinder Singh Bakshi, Milind Ukey, Yogesh Soman, Asit Redij, Shaila Kanekar, Raju Bavdekar, Sagar Athlekar, Mahesh Subhedar, Akshay Bhosale in prominent roles.
More Marathi films line up for release next Friday
After witnessing three Marathi films ‘Bucket List’, ‘Raja’ & ‘Sobat‘ last Friday, we now understand that four more Marathi films namely, ‘Farzand ‘, ‘Maska‘, ‘Bedhadak‘ and ‘Gadbad Jhali’ have lined up for release coming Friday. If we look at the opening day bookings of last Friday, we find that except ‘Bucket List’ no other film has been able to invite the attention of film lovers. And the reason is obvious. After all the Dhak Dhak actress of Bollywood was opening her second innings with her grand debut in Marathi. And, this was enough for the film to get its seats booked online with an overwhelming response, before every show in multiplex.
Now, can this happen with any of these three films to be released next Friday ? Only time will tell. But, if we look at the past experience of many Marathi films, whatever is realistic and based on facts and true stories is well accepted by Marathi audience. In addition to this the screenplay of the film has to be strong, so as to keep the audience engaged from start to finish. Now, looking at the theme of these films, ‘Farjand’ has a backdrop of history during the regime Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and therefore much will depend on film’s presentation and performances of artistes. The other film ‘Maska’ has a common factor in the form of Chinmay Mandlekar, who is also playing prominent role in ‘Farjand’. With other popular artistes, ‘Maska’ is directed by Priyadarshan Jadhav, indicates that it could be a comedy film. Santosh Manjrekar is making his comeback as a director with a so called action film ‘Bedhadak’ coming Friday. And the fourth film ‘Gadbad Ghotala’ by writer- director Santram promises a comedy, as suggested through this film’s poster.
Marathi film ‘Lathe Joshi’ raises curiosity before its official release
Some films create a buzz prior to their release, because of receiving acclaim at various International Film festivals. ‘Lathe Joshi’ is one of them. The film had already raised curiosity for its unique title. And recently, when the teaser poster of this film was released on social networking sites, there are more discussions taking place among the film lovers. Now, it will be officially released all over Maharashtra on 13th July 2018.
Known for his award winning Marathi film ‘Halal’ Amol Kagne along with Laxman kagne is presenting this film, which is written and directed by debutant Mangesh Joshi. Amol who began his acting career as a stage artiste, will also be performing lead role in this film. Till now Marathi Film ‘Lathe Joshi’ has been shown in 21 different film festivals. At the prestigious Pune International Film Festival ( PIFF), this film has bagged many awards, besides winning the best film award. The film will also be screened at the esteemed Goa Marathi Film festival.

‘Samblang Dhamblang’ is the first Marathi song played on Swiss Radio Playlist
We all aware how some of the old Hindi songs gained popularity in a country like Russia. But, can you believe that a Marathi song released recently has been gaining popularity on Swiss radio ? And that too included in their playlist. It may be recalled that on April 15th last month, Tiyana Productions released Adarsh Shinde’s song ‘Samblang Dhamblang‘, which immediately received very good response in Maharashtra. And now, a famous radio station ‘Republic Kalkuta‘ from Switzerland have also appreciated this song.
According to Sujit Jadhav of founder and chief of Tianna Productions, this is the first song of their production. He is so happy with the good response for this Adarsh Shinde’s song from this Swiss radio channel. ” I was overwhelmed when they asked for permission to include this song in their playlist. This channel plays only selected songs from different countries and these songs are selected by their panel of music experts. ” he said.
