Produced by Shiladitya Bora and directed by debutant Abhijeet Mohan Warang, ‘Picasso’ is an artistic Marathi film which was shown at few film festivals and which has now been released by Amazon Prime Video on OTT Platform. Set on the backdrop of a remote village from South Konkan region, the film focuses on a young seventh standard student Gandharva Pandurang Gawade( Samay Sanjeev Tambe). Gandharva who is selected for the Picasso Arts Scholarship at the National level, is required to pay a fee Rs. 1500/- to be eligible for the next level of competition.
With his mother(Ashwini Mukadam) already suffering from an ailment and father just able to manage the household expenses with petty jobs and performing in Dashavatari plays, it becomes difficult for the boy to manage the fees payable for competition. With the notice of paying the fees reaching the school late due to postal delay , the boy reaches the nearby village on the same day, where his father is performing. Though happy with this news, the father expresses his inability to raise this amount in short time. That night the boy spends his time watching the performance of his beloved father in the play. How this night brings the changes in the life of father and son, is what the film’s climax is all about.
Through this simple story of the boy, the film has also shown the importance of the folk art theatre in that region, where Dashavtar plays began in 12th century. So, we get to see, how despite financial struggle and dependence on people’s patronage, these plays still exist in this region. Therefore, the film is a perfect tribute to all those performers, singers and musicians who are part of this folk art. The performances by Prasad Oak, Ashwini Mukadam , Child artiste Samay and other supporting cast are very natural and worth appreciating. Debutant director Abhijeet Mohan Warang has presented this film very well with the support of good folk music Anand Lunkad and decent photography by Stanley Mudda. Certainly, an artistic film with a difference.
Subodh Bhave to bring ‘Maanapman’ on Big Screen
After attaining grand success as a director with his film ‘Katyar Kaljaat Ghusali’ (movie review) Subodh Bhave will now bring another popular musical play of yesteryear’s ‘Maanapaman’ on big screen. This will be released next year during Diwali. Recently, on the auspicious Gudi Padwa day, the official announcement of this film was made with launch of teaser poster of the film. This film is being produced by Sunil Phadtare.
The original musical play with this name was written by Krushnaji Prabhakar Khadilkar while Govindrao Tembe had offered music for it. Now, for the film Shirish Gopal Deshpande will be writing the screenplay while music will be provided by Shankar Ehsaan Loy. The beautiful lyrics of the original play like ‘Shoora Mi Vandile… ‘, ‘Chandrika Hi Janu….’ And others are still on our lips. The play was first staged in the year 1911 with Balgandharva playing the lead role. Now, there is a lot of curiosity about the star cast of this film.

Produced by Swayambhu Productions and directed by Chandrashekhar Sandve, the film stars Vijay Patkar, Mahesh Kokate, Anant Jog, Pramod Pawar, Dr. Vilas Ujawane, Ashok Kulkarni, Dnyanada Kadam, Manashree Pathak, Sachin Gawali, Somnath Tadwalkar, Subod Pawar, Chaitrali Dongare & Sushant Mandle. The story of this film is written by director Sandve himself while the screenplay is written by Chandrashekhar Sandve & R. Mauje. Dialogues by Kamalesh Khandale and cinematography by Ganesh Pawar are the other credits.
‘Gaon Aala Gotyat 15 Lakh Khatyat’ ready for release
Director Shubham Ray recently unveiled the creative title of his Marathi film ‘Gaon Aala Gotyat 15 Lakh Khatyat’ on social media recently. being made under the banner of Zira Film Productions this film is all set to release soon. Speaking about his film, Director Shubham Ray reiterated that through this film he will drive home the nexus between the mindset of the audiences and then prevalent happening in the society. Shubam further added that since the film is an out and out satire, he is confident that whatever be the age of the viewers, each and every one will laugh to his or her heart’s content when he or she sets out to watch the hilarious film.
The star cast of the film comprises of Prakash Bhagwat, Priya Gamre, Sanjivani Jadhav, Virag Jakhad, Dr. Vilas Ujawane, Rangrao Ghagre and others. Nikhil Kamble is the DOP of the film while Virag Jakhad is the art director. The Music has been composed by Music Director Sameer Sonu while Hemant Palkar has done the makeup as well as hair designing. Ashwini Chandrikapure has handled the choreography for the film while Rani Wankhede has looked after the designing of the costumes.
Fakt Marathi to begin tempting recipe programme for foodies
Afternoon hour is the best time for food lovers on television. Keeping this in mind, Fakt Marathi channel which has been offering variety in entertainment, will now begin a new programme on tempting recipes for foodlovers. This programme will start from 19th April from Monday to Friday at 1.30 pm. This Kitchen recipe programme titled ‘Angat Pangat’ will present three different types of recipes. The first part will comprise of our own Indian style food, the second part will present Mix alias Fusion recipe and the third part will cover overseas special recipes.
Speaking about this new programme Fakta Marathi Business Head Shyam Malekar expressed confidence that this programme will be different from other programmes on this subject. This show will present renowned Executive Chef Shantanu Gupte who is expert in Indian recipes besides Modern European Fine dining. After receiving degree from Institute of Hotel Management he went for further studies at the North Norway University in Europe. For the past 19 years he has served in top Five star hotels in India and Europe. Popular Marathi actress Sayali Deodhar will anchor this TV show. Every Friday, this show will present popular Marathi celebrities like Sanjay Mone, Sandeep Pathak, Sneha Raikar, Deepti Bhagwat, Trupti Deore performing their favourite recipes.
This show is produced by Nikhil Raibole and Bhupendrakumar Nandan of Café Marathi and directed by Hemant Tambe. Music by Rohit Nagbhide, writer- Abhijit Pendharkar and Cinematography by Naresh Ram Shivgan are the other credits of this film.
Bhausaheb Shinde unveils poster of ‘Raundal’ on Gudi Padwa
Known for his performance in films like ‘Khwada’ (movie review) and ‘Baban’ the actor turned producer Bhausaheb Shinde unveiled the poster of his next film ‘Raundal’ on social media coinciding with the auspicious occasion of Gudi Padwa which is considered to be the best muhurat day. On the poster of this film we find a rowdy look of Bhausaheb Shinde, sporting a checked shirt and a kada in his left hand. This clearly indicates that this time he will be portraying a different role in this so called action filled film.
The USP of this film is that Bhausaheb Shinde will be himself producing this film along with Balasaheb Shinde , under the banner of Bhau Shinde Films and he will be seen in the lead role. Having already gained a lot of followers, now his admirers are curious to know about his character in this new film. But, they will have to wait till the film’s release. ‘Raundal’ is to be directed by Gajanan Nana Padol.
Muhurat of ‘Back To School’ performed
Few months ago an official announcement was made about a Marathi film ‘Back To School’ with release of poster. However, there were no details disclosed about the star cast of the film, story and expected release date etc. However, now a proper muhurat ceremony of this film was held in Mumbai in presence of dignitaries like Meghraj Bhosale, President of Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Chitrapat Mahamandal , Mahesh Landge, MLA, and Coroprator Sonali Gavhane and stars of this film. All the three dignitaries will also be making their appearance in this film.
‘Back to school’ movie teaser

Produced by Anand Pandit, Pushkar Jog and Mohaan Nadar and directed by Priyanka Tanwar, the latest Marathi film ‘Well Done Baby’ has been released on Amazon Prime last Friday. The film presents the story of a young Indian couple based in London. Both, Aditya (Pushkar Jog) a Counsellor & Meera (Amrta Khanvilkar)who is doing her PhD in Chemistry are in search of a purpose in their relationship. Things worsen and they are almost on the verge of divorce, after arrival of Meera’s mother (Vandana Gupte) in their life. . However, the news about Meera becoming pregnant holds Aditya and Meera together, despite few differences. How they deal with this issue, during this crucial period, is what ‘Well Done Baby’ is all about.
Written by Marmabandha Gavhane this film is very well presented by director Priyanka Tanwar who has made her debut as a director in Marathi. Shot in U.K. the film has captured interesting happenings in the life of this couple while interacting with Meera’s mother, the Marriage Counsellor ( Sanjay Jadhav) ,Fitness trainer, Parenting workshop Organiser ,Gynaecologist and few others. The scenes with Marriage counsellors and at the Indian style parenting workshop in London are well presented. The film focuses more on generating humour out of every important scene, no matter how serious the situation and therefore the would be working parents may connect well with these scenes in this 99 minute long screenplay. Music by Rohan Rohan adds some support at required places.
What holds you with this film are the superb performances by Pushkar, Amruta and Vandana Gupte, which are very natural. They have received good support from other character artistes. Cinematographers Satonio Terzio and Mohsion Khan Pathan have done a good job capturing the emotions of these artistes very well in close up scenes , besides capturing the beauty of London during some outdoor shoots. Salil Amrute’s sound design is good and costume design by Sunetra Mane needs a special mention. Certainly a timely released neat and clean film for Marathi film lovers on OTT platform, instead of watching those rough language web series .
Milind Kavde announces ‘Takatak 2′
After experiencing grand success of his previous Marathi film ‘Takatak’, Film maker Milind Kavde has now announced the sequel titled ‘Takatak 2′ To be produced by Omprakash Bhatt and Dhananjay Singh Masoom of Purple Bull Entertainment & Jagat Singh . The motion poster of this film was unveiled on social media. Besides directing this film, Milind has also written the story and screenplay of this film, while the dialogues are penned by Kiran Berad. Jay Atre has written the lyrics, while music will be scored by Varun Likhate. Hajrat Shaikh Wali is the DOP of this film.
Marathi film ‘Takatak 2′
When asked how thought of the idea of making a sequel of the film, Milind said that the sequel of the film will prove to be a love story with a difference with visionary lyrics and brilliant music as its USP. He further added that their responsibility as a team is manifold while making the sequel of the film, especially after the phenomenal success of ‘Takatak’. He seemed very confident of what he was offering through this sequel.
